stroller theft
So DH and I went shopping yesterday for a nice, convienent, light-weight stroller for DD (1 1/2) for our upcoming tript to WDW. First, we got what I think is a perfect disney stroller...it is fully reclining, has sun canopy, 5 pt harness, folds up twice for maximum compactness and comes with an attached carry strap to carry the stroller when you're not using it. However, when we told the associate at Babys r'us what we were looking for a stroller for, he said to pick one that is not too expensive because every one he knows who goes to disney with their own stroller gets it stolen.
Has anyone ever had a problem with having their personal stroller stolen at a disney park? If so, being how disney is so accomodating, did they do anything to reimburse you for the cost?

Re: stroller theft
We've been there with our boys thrice and have always had at least two strollers including our Peg Perego double and we've never had any problem nor have I spoke with anyone whom had a problem.

Re: stroller theft
Never heard of anyone having their personal stroller stolen at WDW. There are many, many stories of people having their Disney strollers taken. But that's probably a case of mistaken identity, as they all look alike.
Whenever someone is concerned about having their stroller taken, we always advise them to make it look unappealing: Leave junk in it: food crumbs on the seat, lots of personal items inside, tie something to the handles....heck some people even go so far as to leave something disgusting in it, like a diaper with something smeared in it. If anyone were to consider taking someone else's stroller, they'd go for the nice new one that had nothing in it and was easy to grab.

Re: stroller theft
I've never had a stroller stolen. I figure someone else's will always be nicer than mine. Plus, I think people are more likely to grab a Disney stroller, in which case I'm sure you can just go get another one. I'm sure that if your personal stroller was stolen, Disney would not reimburse you. I wouldn't worry about it though. I just wouldn't leave anything IN the stroller when you go on rides, etc, so pack light. We just bring jackets if necessary and my purse, and when my kids were babies, a small diaper bag.
I use a MacClaren Volo. Great for Disney. I used to have a Combi Travel Savvy...piece of junk. |

Re: stroller theft
We did not have our stroller "stolen", but it was accidentaly taken by another family (15 minutes before the MK was closing no less). I can tell you to definately make sure your stroller is easily identifiable, bright tags or ribbons will work great. We also tied a balloon to ours, sometimes when you go into an attraction the CMs will move the strollers and when you get out it's not where you left it, the balloon makes it very easy to spot.

Re: stroller theft
Make your stroller as identifiable as possible; that's the best anti-theft method you can use. I love Tinkerbelle's suggestions of tying a balloon to it. I think stroller theft is extremely rare, but someone is a lot less likely to steal yours if it stands out. And she's right...CMs move strollers around, so being able to spot it easily is a plus!

Re: stroller theft
The person in the store was probably mistaken by others complaining about their "Disney" rental strollers being stolen. Never heard of anyone having their personal stroller being taken.
As others have said, make it identifiable in every way so you can find it when you come out of attractions. Otherwise, I would not worry.

Re: stroller theft
We've been taking our own stroller for over 8 years and we've never had a problem, nor know of anyone that has had their stroller taken. If you are worried about it, you could put a bicycle lock around the wheel so that CM's can still drag it over to where they want to park it, yet guest wouldn't want to take it.

Re: stroller theft
I must agree. We have taken a stroller everytime we have gone to DL and never had it taken, or anything taken out of it. It has been moved to a different place by a CM, but never too far away.

Re: stroller theft
We went in April with 2 strollers and had no problem. The CMs did move our strollers while we were in The Little Mermaid Show. I have heard of people walking off with WDW strollers, but that is because they are all the same. I have heard you need to make those as personal as possible such as tying a scarf or as someone said earlier, put a balloon on it.

Re: stroller theft
We have never had a problem but I have had to do some serious looking to find our stroller. I thought for sure it had been stolen the first day of our trip a couple of weeks ago. I walked around the stroller area 3 times before I spotted it.

Re: stroller theft
We always took strollers when my DD13 was little and now we have taken them twice with our younger DD. Never had one taken and never heard of it. We have handle extenders on our strollers (tall parents), so they are easy to spot in a crowded stroller lot.
