Icon8 Roaches at WDW

Just returned from a few weeks at WDW and I can't tell you how disgusted I was at WDW. There were roaches at Down Town Disney on the board walk, we were also killing roaches at Splash Mountain and killing roaches again on Main Street USA. What had been a nice clean park is now changing because of the lack of upkeep.

Re: Roaches at WDW

Wow, that's too bad. We just got back about a week ago and didn't see any roaches during our 2 week trip. I wonder what happened after we left.

Believe it or not, but it doesn't matter who you are... you have roaches... and mice.

Disney Magic is not that powerful!

If my brother Marty heard about this...he would flip out...he can't stand roaches!!!

I agree...roaches were here way before we were...
But I have never seen them at wdw...as a matter of fact...the only bugs I saw at disney were butterflies and ladybugs...lol...

Re: Roaches at WDW

The southern states are just plain full of roaches due to the warm climate. No way around it. It's not an issue of cleanliness in warmer places. And this summer was a record breaker, temperature-wise.

I think on the whole, Disney does a pretty good job of keeping the pesty ones at bay for it's guests, but I doubt there's any way to get rid of all of them.

If there were roaches crawling around my hotel room, I'd have a problem with it, but outside? Nah...

CALL THEM. If they don't hear from guests about things like this, they could easily assume that no one minds.

Re: Roaches at WDW

I am a huge bug-phobe (especially spiders), but for some reason, I haven't ever minded the bugs at WDW too much. I haven't really come in contact with many, except for the big june bug beetles (which look a lot like roaches) which I always expect when I am in the south; and a few mosquitoes late at night while sitting at the bus stop. The exception to this is the love-bugs, which infested the place during my trip 2 years ago. On my 2 trips since then, I've barely seen any. I hope the roaches are gone in Oct. when I go, and I hope the love-bugs stay where they are!

Re: Roaches at WDW

Ahem, I believe roaches are part of daily life in warm and humid climates. I don't think that it nessessarily means it's dirty. Must have been the season for those buggers to be every where.
I don't think it is fair to blame Disney.

Re: Roaches at WDW

We have the same problem here in AZ. What happens is when the sewers are over run with them the city flushes them out with some sort of bug killer stuff, and they all run up and out of the sewers. I asked a city worker guy about it and this is what I was told.

When we were in WDW last Dec. There were roaches on the bus. Roaches happen to freak me out. But I know that they tend to be in the warmer climates also.

Wow, that is just silly! Cockroaches are an every day part of life here in FL (along with thousands of invertebrates), and just because its WDW, it is no different except in the fact that they try extra hard to keep the bug population down. "What had been a nice clean park is now changing because of the lack of upkeep". Thats just silly. Disney is extreamly clean, but they cant clean the whole state. You honestly have no idea what it would be like if they truly didnt keep it all so clean. Also, you should know that not all cockroaches are attracted to food and garbage, some only go for moisture, which Florida and WDW both have an abundance of.
What an interesting point of view you have. Are their any bugs where you live? The difference is that in CT you get "killing winters" that majorly cuts back the bug population, here in FL we dont get those.

I agree Darth!
Iam not from the South but I thought wherever you go in Florida you are going to find Roaches and/or those Palmetto bugs.
You can't control anything outside as far as the parks and the boardwalk, it's pretty impossible to do that. But during the hot, summer months I would think they are EVERYWHERE!
Now, if somebody saw 1 in a restaurant or their hotel room then I would say they had reason to complain!

"Palmetto Bugs" is just another name for Cockroaches.
