Extra Magic Hours

This will be our first trip on-site Disney, and I was looking forward to the extra magical hours. But my sister told me not to go to the parks the days the parks are open before or after hours for resort's guests, as these are the days the parks are more crowded. Now I don't know what to do, if I should use this benefit or not. Please help... Trip 10/28-11/4/05.

Re: Extra Magic Hours

Your sister is right, the parks with EMH are usually more crowded than non-EMH days. I find that we can get a lot done early in the morning so we hit EMH at MK then leave early in the afternoon and take a break. After our break we usually hit a non-EMH park to wrap up our day. We didn't need to use EMHs at Epcot or AKL so we skipped those parks on EMH days if we could. We wanted to do a couple evening EMH but our 7 year old just couldn't stay awake past 11 pm after a busy day so we didn't push it.

You are going when the park hours are generally shortened so hopping over to a different park for EMH might be a good idea. For us EMH at night didn't start until 11 pm at the MK--too late after getting up at 6:30 and going hard all day.

Re: Extra Magic Hours

And just so you know, if you go during a fairly busy time of year, those evening EMHs have been WAY too crowded to be of any use. It's just been too crowded to get on any rides.

I've heard other people say they were great at slow times of the year, but this summer was terrible.

I much prefer the old E-nights. At least there was a limit to how many people got in.

Re: Extra Magic Hours

We also noticed that the night EMH are MUCH more crowded than the morning EMH. We had a PS at Donald's Breakfastosaurus on a Sat. morning EMH day. Believe it or not, after breakfast we headed straight over to Dinosaur and walked right on. This was at 9:30-10am in mid May. Couldn't believe it!

You might be going at a good time of year to take advantage of the EMH's. You won't know until you get there.

Re: Extra Magic Hours

Thanks so much... I thought my sister was wrong. Anyway, nowadays you don't know when the parks are going to be crowded. We went once in October, which is supposed to be less crowded and the lines were pretty long. I am just hoping that this won't happen to us this time.

Re: Extra Magic Hours

The problem with extra hours is that when it's crowded, it's really crowded. The other thing to consider is that not everything is open.

I've done it during peak and off peak times.

Then I was there a couple of weeks ago, it was REALLY packed. Some rides were no problem and some you couldn't get near - much like anytime. By that time it was the only park open so ALL of the die hards were in MK.

Hit rides during the parade. Then get as far away from the parade route as possible.

The MK closed at 10 and when I left at 12:30 there were still people in the park without arm bands. They really need to enforce it better.

Re: Extra Magic Hours

Do they have the evening EMH all year long now? We are thinking about going over the Thanksgiving holiday and the EMH calander does not have days listed for November.

Thanks, Harry

Re: Extra Magic Hours

Although we are arriving 10/28, most of our time there will be in November. We are also waiting for the November hours. I've heard that Disney follow almost the same days for the EMH. So you can follow October EMH.

Re: Extra Magic Hours

Well, they used to follow the same schedule for EMH's when they only did mornings. Now that they have mornings and evenings, that schedule is always changing.

Believe me....re-check that schedule again just before you leave from home, as they changed the one they published on the Disney site when I got there. Kind of threw a monkey wrench into my plans.

Re: Extra Magic Hours

So if EMH were from 7-10, and I came at 7:30 with my resort ID and wanted to get in and get a bracelet, would they let me or would I be too late?

Re: Extra Magic Hours

They would let you. You must have your ID card with you. They will swipe it through a machine.... when they give you the wrist band.

Re: Extra Magic Hours

Do you have to have the park hopper option to use EMH??? Last trip we only used it once and after that avoided the crowds (The only lines the entire trip was at MK evening EMH!).

Re: Extra Magic Hours

I am changing my mind about this. I think we will not use it. The thing is that I made reservations for lunch at Cinderella's Royal T for Wed 11/1 and for breakfast Thursd 11/2 in EPCOT's Norway with the princesses...... I guess I will have to deal with the crowds :(

Re: Extra Magic Hours

My experience is morning EMH is NOT busy. Go ahead and keep the reservations. Then park hope later in the day if/when the park gets busy.
