Swiss Fam or Tarzan

Along the same lines as whether you like the old or new Tikki Room, what do you folks think of the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse (which is now the Tarzan Treehouse in Disneyland?)
The SFR Treehouse used to be known by my family as "THE LINE RIDE" - lining up and climbing stairs to see pots and pans and things wasn't too thrilling unless you had seen the movie.
The Tarzan reworking is very effective, I think. I liked the touch of music following you throughout, along with the retelling of the story. Much more interesting than THE LINE RIDE, IMHO. :laugh

Personally, when I saw heard they changed SFR Treehouse in Disneyland to the Tarzan Treehouse, I kinda hoped they'd do that in Orlando. Then I realized it gives me an excuse to go to both parks.

Much like the two different Tiki Rooms. If you want to see the old Tiki Room, go to Disneyland. The New Tiki Room, go to WDW. Same goes for rides like Pinocchio, Mr. Toad, or Buzz Lightyear. Also, none of the four Haunted mansions look the same (inside or out).

I think every Disney Park (Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, Paris, Tokyo and the upcoming Hong Kong) should have attractions that are exclusive to that Disney park.

If all the Disney parks had the exact same attractions what would be the incentive to go to them all?

Just a thought...

Agreed- what makes these places special are their subtle differences. I hope though, that when one innovates and does something effective, that the other will continue to innovate and do something equally effective. Like the recent overhaul of the Haunted Mansion for Halloween. That was a great thrill, and even though I've ridden the Orlando one tons of times, this added feature made visiting CA more of a memorable event.

I agree with the two prior posts as well. Many changes recently have helped furthur the differences in MK and DL, good move. I like the Tarzan Treehouse Idea much better though, and even having seen Swiss Family doesn't help much in FL. :laugh

I think the FL Jungle Cruise should become the Jungle Book Cruise. Just a thought, since Characters are spreading from Fantasyland into other lands lately.

I was just thinking that there are no Jungle Book attractions in any of the parks (except for Baloo and Louie characters walking around). I think that would be a cool idea but I'm sure it would be subject to a lot of criticism.

Hmmm... maybe, but the Jungle Cruise Jokes are getting stale, and you now have the Animal Kingdom so I don't see why not. You can still have a "skipper" and even some bad jokes, you could keep Hippos and Elephants, and then add the characters in other areas. Eventually this attraction needs an update, this would be a simple way I think.

I understand and agree with the idea that you have to change things in order to keep the parks fresh and exciting, but it does conflict with my desire for my son to have somewhat the same Disney experience that I had when I was little.

That being said, I liked the new Tarzan treehouse, and I am also glad that the original Swiss Family treehouse still remains at WDW. I might be in the minority, but I always liked the Swiss Family treehouse. When I was a kid (and even now :o ) I always thought it would be so cool to live there.

I do agree that the Jungle Cruise needs a makeover. At least with the narration if nothing else. Does anybody laugh at those jokes anymore save for a polite chuckle so the CM does not feel bad?

What about if Disney gave into the idea of having the characters from the movies guide us through the rides. Granted, it would be extra cost and search for talent, but imagine a jungle cruise or the safari being led by, say, Mowgli, or even Tarzan or Jane ? Or even Indiana Jones!? That would add an extra level of fun to the rides. Or the thrill of having the costumed characters ride with you.

On the subject of changing rides, unfortunately, our memories are often fonder of things from our youth than they ought to be, and some things DO have to change (fortunately, not much Disney needs to change, being that most of it becomes an instant classic).

I sadly overheard the following conversation at Disneyland last month- a grandfather (?) was talking to his grandson (?), saying: "Oh, they've got a great submarine that's takes you underwater - wait till you see that! And then It's a Small World, where there's dolls from all around the world! And There's a building that goes around in and around and shows you what the future is going to be like."
I honestly didn't have the heart to turn around and break it to him that a) was gone b)was closed for refurbishing and c) was also gone.

We found the treehouse to be "yawn city" no matter what they call it. :o

This would a great idea! The problem I see with that though is that they have so many boats going out and you cant have Tarzan in every one. Maybe the characters could be one of the guides, so you wouldn't necessarily get them each time you went. That would certainly make people want to ride more on the chance they could get a character guide.

I too experienced this disappointment. When I returned to WDW (as an adult) in 1999 after a 20 year absense. I was very disappointed to see the "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and the "Mr. Toad" rides were gone.

Although it was nice to see rides like the Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, Space Mountain and others were just as I remembered them. It's also nice to know I can go to Disneyland for Mr Toad and Tokyo (maybe someday) to see a version of the "20,000 Leagues" ride.
