I know we have discussed taking coolers into the parks and we have done it many times, but only the soft sided coolers. We have never had a problem. I was wondering about those new square coolers that ar hard sided and have a handle, do you think they would allow those in the parks? We usually just take in pop and water and a few snacks but DH wants to get one of those coolers!

What do ya think?

Honeslty, I have never heard of anyone taking the hard ones in, but imagine it has happened. I think you will be better off just taking the soft-sided one. I'd hate for you to get all the way to the security and they tell you no. What would you do with it? If you have had repeated success with the soft-sided ones, stick with that.

I have to agree with Dana. I think Disney is fairly lax about the soft-sided ones because they could be considered just a "purse" or "bag" of some sort, but you may have more trouble with a hard-sided cooler. They say "no coolers", and the fact that they allow the soft-sided ones is really nice. I don't know if I'd want to challenge their generosity, if you know what I mean.

We saw several BIG coolers this summer. By big I mean full size hard plastic coolers. I was really surprised poeple wanted to schlep the thing around the park all day. I saw 2 large coolers in rented double strollers and the cooler took up the whole stroller. A couple people we carrying their large cooler around.

I do have to admit, I never saw a security person turn anyone away at Disneyland last summer. It looked like some people had brought whole feasts!

If you go by DT's experience, it sounds like a small cooler like you're thinking might not be a big deal after all. *shrugs* I would make your decision entirely based upon whether or not you have a back-up plan if they won't let you take it in!

I am thinking if they do not let us in we will bring the soft sided as a backup! I don't know I think the soft sided would be fine but Dh wants the hard sided!!

But what do we do at the gate if they do turn us away??

I really don't think you will get turned away based on what I was this summer. I am not kidding, I saw huge coolers in the parks but they looked like a pain to haul around all day. There are lockers to rent but I'm not sure a cooler will fit in them, I've not actually checked the lockers out.

We had a fridge in our room and sometimes we froze bottles of water and took those in the park. The ice melted over the course of the morning and we had cold water to drink.

Actually, that's not a bad idea. Based on what DT said, I really don't think you should have a problem.

And if I'm being frank (I know this sounds bad), if you have trouble with one particular security guard, switch to the soft-sided cooler and try another.
