What happened to River Country?

I just got the 2003 video in the mail and noticed no mention of the waterpark. After going through the brochure, River Country has been removed from the map, is no longer listed as an option for ParkHopper Plus passes and Pop Century is no longer listed. I've never been to any of the waterparks and thought it'd be nice to visit them the next time around. :)

Amethyst,
1-Pop Century's construction is on hold, with no announced opening date. I was supposed to stay there this past July. It will eventually be completed, but who knows when?
2-River Country is no more. It had become very outdated, and wasn't as popular as Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon. It will most likely become either a new water park or the pool area for the Wilderness Lodge.
:D :)

River Country

I will miss River Country dearly as we are campers and always had the best of times there. They should leave it open as a place for Fort Wilderness guest to use as the pools they offer have no themed equipment to have fun with. :nothing:

Welcome to DisneyCentral, smccl3829!

It seems I'm always 5 minutes too late for everything. We were thinking about visiting River Country
because we never do the waterparks. We were going to last trip but since it rained everyday, we were
waterlogged enough :laugh Hopefully they do make it the theme pool for Wilderness Lodge. At least I'll
still have a chance to see it--even if they do change it. :)

I noticed the opening of Pop Century has been delayed a few times. I'm looking forward to taking
pictures of the giant big-wheeler--my vehicle of choice as a kiddie.:)

I think I read somwhere that they were planning to make it the guest pool for Fort Wilderness camp grounds and cabins. It's on the property so it makes sense.

Nik, welcome to DisneyCentral!

My understanding that it actually is a bit away from Fort Wilderness, and hence the problem with it becoming a pool area for the resort. I believe Disney is also worried that they will be flooded with guests staying elsewhere, and it will cannibalize their water park revenue as quests will go to the "free" water park rather than the one that they would have to pay for. Unfortunately, I believe that it may go the way of Discovery Island.

We stayed at Fort Wilderness Cabins twice and loved it. One year we went to River Country. It's at the very end of the resort near where you get the boat to go to MK, on the other side of Trails Inn. It may seem far but everything is far at FW. They even rent golf carts because it's so huge. When we went to RC it was gross! The water is part of SSL and smells. We left after 15 min. and went to BB. I can understand why they would think that people from other resorts might come for a free water park day. But they only have a few really basic pools at that resort so it would be nice to have something up to the other resort pools. If I could remember where I read it I would tell you. Either, mouseinfo of mouseplanet. But you can't always believe what you read.

Maybe they should combine those two areas into a high dollar (food inclusive) getaway experience similar to Discovery Cove, only with a different concept, Maybe a Survivor type deal?
