Christmas decorations

Does anyone know when they take down the christmas decorations, I was hoping they would still be up when we arrive on Jan. 7th?

Re: Christmas decorations

You will probably see a few still up by then, but they take them down pretty quickly after the new year I think.

Re: Christmas decorations

You know what's wild? The decorations go up in one night!!! And so I would guess that they go away on one night, too!

(I have always wondered how they get the decroations up at the resorts so quickly! I have never seen them working, except on the gingerbread house at GF, but one day, voila! Decor!)

Re: Christmas decorations

There's a huge possibility this year. We're expecting a record Christmas crowd this year, meaning hundreds of thousands of people will be wanting to see it all. The Osborne Lights are already strung up, but they don't unveil those until mid-November. I've heard that they will be up till January 8th this new year. The other parks? Not sure yet.

Re: Christmas decorations

We were there one year in Janaury, all decorated for the Holidays, it was beautiful. The next day....back to normal, well normal for Disney (but no Holiday to be PC).
Disney is truely a beautiful place for the Holidays, and it is the only time when I will say the crowds make it better, more festive (except the lines, but FP it!)

I miss Disneylands HM makeover every January, I get there one week to late every year for my convention.....one day

Re: Christmas decorations

If you promise not to tell I'll tell you a secret...

First two weeks of December. After Thanksgiving mob and before Christmas mob. All the good stuff and lowest crowds of the year.

But don't tell anybody else though. If you do we'll have to reduce your rank to Mouseketeer TRAINEE.

That's true for most stuff, but the Osbourne lights at MGM start going up in September and the Lights of Winter at Epcot goes up in November and takes a few weeks to get tested and ready to go.

Things like wreaths and even the trees appear and go away fairly quickly. There won't be much left, if anything, by January 7.

The picture in my head is just too funny! I can imagine like all these little mice or elves everywhere scrambling around to get it back to Disney "normal" (if there is such a thing! )

Oh I promise I won't tell. Wish you could tell DH that that is one of the lowest crowd times of the year. He won't believe me. I was imagining Mice putting up the decorations too. At night when WDW is closed

Re: Christmas decorations

All of WDW's fantastic Christmas decorations are stored in a huge warehouse located in the North Service Area behind the Magic Kingdom. The decorations are carefully grouped, packaged and labeled and sit shelf after shelf, practically from floor to ceiling. The amount of decorations in the building is staggering.

There's a full-time, year-round staff of 20 or so people that does nothing but tend to the decorations -- making sure they work, repairing damage, replacing bulbs, etc. The staff then increases when it's time to put up the decorations or take them down.

Take him to a bookstore and check out the "Unofficial Guide to WDW." Chart in there with average attendances...at least last time I looked.
