Help! How to handle a crying baby?

Part of our trip we will be with our GD who will be 9 months old. What do you do when a baby starts crying in the middle of a show? Do you climb over 18 people do get out, do you just try to get an end seat, will a CM help you get out, do you just smile at all the people giving you dirty looks? The youngest our kids were for their first trip was 3, so we never had to deal with this and I never really noticed what other people did.

Honestly, when you are in a show and the little darling cries....and cries, you should excuse yourself and take her out. Better to climb over 18 people than have her cry throughout the entire show. Try to get end seats when possible and if you see a trend with her crying in shows, avoid them.

Babies cry when in WDW?

When ours was smaller we always tried to grab isle seats whenever possible. If the crying got to be too much we were able to get out easier that way.

Re: Help! How to handle a crying baby?

When DD was young we always sat as close to the exit as possible. There were quite a few times that we had to leave because some shows were just "too much" for the little ones.

Thats a great idea.

My kids were babies at one time and cried. I would leave the area, if I had the oppurtunity. Other than that if you feel unsafe and think you may injure yourself and/or your child stay were you are. I don't mind when a child cries, just reminds me of my younger days.

Don't forget the most important thing do; What you feel is best not what other people think and you paid for this trip, not the people in the audience.

Re: Help! How to handle a crying baby?

I agree with most posters that you should remove a crying infant from shows. Sure, you paid a lot for your trip, but so did all the others in the audience and it is common courtesy to leave. Definitely try to sit in the back of the theatre or at least on the aisle so you can make a quick exit if possible.

I totally agree. We never traveled to WDW with infants - we waited until the kids were each 5 to take them. But, they used to be very hesitant to do dark and loud. We always used to sit as close as possible to an exit. CMs were more than willing to help. I still have never seen It's Tough to Be a Bug all the way through.

Re: Help! How to handle a crying baby?

DGD was taken to her first ballet at just 2 weeks old and has been going frequently 1-2x a month since then because DD12 was a part of the productions. I always take a seat by the door and I also bring things to distract her. If she started to fuss, I would first try standing in the back and if that didn't work I would leave. BTW, at 3 she is an avid ballet fan!

Re: Help! How to handle a crying baby?

Like other posters, I would grab a seat close to an exit just in case. One person can make a quick exit and wait for the rest of the group outside or in a per-planned meeting place like the baby care center depending on why the child is crying (hungry, wet, tired).

Me either. LOL. Of course, I'm not to thrilled with that bug poking me in the butt either.

Re: Help! How to handle a crying baby?

There is nothing more inconsiderate to me than a parent who does not remove their crying child. I would absolutely remove the baby from the theater. Having spent so much time at WDW has helped me realize how I want to be when I'm a mom. Also, whenever we bring my 3-year-old cousin to WDW and he gets fussy, we ALWAYS take him out immediately and let him have his tantrum in the beautiful great outdoors (and still get dirty looks )

Re: Help! How to handle a crying baby?

Hey,
I am going to totally exclude myself from this thread. It could get out of hand and I don't want to be TO'ed. I heard Cavey's got his finger on the button and is itching to TO me.
LOLOLOLOLOLO!!!

I agree with everyone! But I feel sorry for guest with children. I got drawn back into this thread when EJ mentioned that she got dirty looks! People we are surposed to be at a happy place that was created with children in mind.

Remember what MerlinMatt mentioned one time about just a smile and warm gesture to people at the parks can do! I take his advice everyday while at WDW and I think everyone else should too. Don't get me wrong I agree with sit at the end of the isle thingie..........

Next time you see a parent with a child that is having a bad day, just remember that could be you and how would you feel....

I'm Out,
MJD

Re: Help! How to handle a crying baby?

Thank you for all the help. I never really thought about asking the CM to sit by the exit. We would most likely not even have the problem because we will only be watching her a few hours here and there, so we could just avoid the shows. But there might be a time she is sleeping and wham, middle of a show she might wake up crying.

Or, jo-jo:
You send two from your party on a crossing route deep - to the exit;
You shovel-pass the baby to the deep man;
He latterals to the crossing reciever then hits the door;
They burst to the outside;
And score! - all is well.
