Re: Save Spaceship Earth

I'd be skeptical of such rumors.

Also, every petition I know of is met with a reply from Disney that they do not accept petitions.

I wouldn't stress over it. I think even if SSE was re-done, we'd find it a fresh improvement.

I think change is good and a little change to this attraction wouldn't kill it. Sorry all, but I really didn't care for it.

Re: Save Spaceship Earth

Well, I was assuming they were going to make some serious changes but I think the ride needs it. So long as they keep the actual structure I really don't care too much what goes inside. I too am attached to the nostalgia of early EPCOT but time moves on and if EPCOT wants to keep the "Community Of Tomorrow" part of it's accronym none of it's attractions will be able to stay the same for very long.

"well, that's progress for you!"

Very good point. FutureWorld needs to remain cutting edge, lest it become nostolgic like "Tomorrow" land.

Re: Save Spaceship Earth

I love SSE - the very end I can do without - it is a little outdated and hokey. But, I love the Renaissance part and the burning smell. I'm not always for trying to be cutting edge, I like a little nostalgia.....Just my opinion.

Re: Save Spaceship Earth

I love SSE!!! It is one of my all-time faves, and my family loves it too! We loved it even more when Walter Cronkite was the narrator!

BUT -- if they change it, I bet it will be fabulous! I would have to think they would save the track and cars, and simply change the stuff you are looking at!

I would bet we have been on that ride a couple of dozen times, at least. So a change might be fun!

Re: Save Spaceship Earth

It's been totally changed before. It was PanAm then Delta Airlines transportation themed before. Now it's communications.

I just wish they'd change the uncomfortable seats.

Re: Save Spaceship Earth

Both my Grandfathers were engineers with AT&T at bell labs in Holmdel NJ so it is hard for me to let go of what was the AT&T influence. I remember going to WDW in the 80's and they were SO proud of Spaceship Earth, even though they had nothing to do with it obviously, hehe, besides being AT&T employees. My grandfather died before AT&T dropped the sponsorship in the early 90's but I bet if he were STILL alive today he would STILL talk about it everytime we entered the park. [sniff sniff]

Oh well, I am sure Seimens will impress us, I hope!!!

Re: Save Spaceship Earth

I do not want to see this become a thrill ride. I love all the detail about SSE .. an update ..something new in the exit area would be ok .. but changing it to a thrill ride would really make me sad. SSE has always been one of the rides we love to do over and over again. It is relaxing and soothing. Some scenes should never be replaced, like where the family is in front of the TV and you see The Ozzie and Harriet show .. Walt him self, the monk sleeping and snoring. I miss this quiet enjoyment that was a part of WOM and Horizons.

Re: Save Spaceship Earth

Yeah, I agree that I still want it to remain "a slow moving ride in the darkness" and I think it will. It would be QUITE a feat to chage it into a thrill ride I believe. For them to change the track system, cars, etc.. I would imagine that would be at least a couple years work!!! I hope the refurb doesn't take that long! Only time will tell, I am SO anxious to hear more.

PS: I "zombied" an old thread about sponsorship if we don't want to threadjack Susan-Storm's anymore... hehe!

I couldn't agree more. Future World seems to be a new breeding ground for thrill rides, IMHO it doesn't need another. I miss WOM and Horizons, and SSE seems to be the only tie left to an earlier Epcot. A rehab and an update seems to be in order, but please, no more thrill rides for Future World. Inventive and imaginative attractions like SSE and Imagination are part of what keeps Epcot from being just a theme park.
