Park Hopper finally spotted on TV in Christmas Parade

A month after it aired on Christmas Day, my wife and I finally found out that we indeed made it on-screen during the Walt Disney World Christmas Parade that was taped on Dec. 2. Why it took so long for us to see the parade on TV and how we managed to do it is a story in itself. For those unfamiliar with the taping of the parade or who may not remember, you can read the original thread, Park Hopper's Excellent Christmas Day Parade Taping Adventure.

At any rate, after spending five hours being part of the crowd at the taping session, DW and I were really looking forward to watching the parade on X-mas morning to see if we made it on TV. Then, late on Christmas Eve, we learned the parade wasn't being shown in the Orlando market. What a disappointment! Several attempts to obtain a tape of the show failed, and we were pretty much resigned to never seeing the parade.

Then along came DC's very own wonderful mrspooky,

who, after reading of our plight, PMd that she had the parade on tape and would mail it to us. So we waited, and we waited, and we waited. PMs flew fast and furious as the days passed: "Has the tape arrived yet?" "No, not yet." "Let's give it a couple of more days." "Oh, no, I'm afraid it's been lost."

Well, after almost two weeks of being mired somewhere in the U.S. Postal Service, mrspooky's first-class package suddenly arrived yesterday safe and sound. Thirteen days from PA to FL. At that point, though, who cared. DW and I had the tape and sat transfixed in front of the TV set. It was like Christmas all over again.

And, yes, there we were on TV. So what if you had to play the tape frame-by-frame to see us as the camera flashed by. We were stars!

Call our friends! Call our relatives! Call anyone who would listen politely but really didn't care!

As for the details of our oh-so-brief starring moments, well, there's one shot on the parade tape during the Brian Setzer Orchestra segment where my face and Mickey Santa hat are clearly visible and there's another moment when a woman jumps up and down, up and down, like an out-of-control jack-in-the-box. Now you see her, now you don't. That's my wife. Also, during one of the overhead crowd shots, you can see the back of my waving hand (desperate, huh?). I recognized me from the wristwatch (Mickey, of course) on the right hand. Of course, unless you go frame-by-frame, these moments of stardom flash by so fast it's impossible to recognize anybody.

But anyway, it was fun to finally find out that we were on TV after being resigned to never knowing. And of course we owe a gigantic debt of gratitude to mrspooky, who, in the true spirit of the DC family, made it all possible thanks to her kindness.

I just got a chance to watch the Christmas Parade this past weekend too, had it on the DVR, but just no time to sit down and watch it...we loved it!! DFil came to visit while it was on, he probably thought I was a little crazy...oh well!
