June vs. October
Hi all,
So I am trying to help a family member plan a trip to WDW and she is trying to decide between going in June or October. In June she would go at the end of the month after her kids are out of school and stay longer (5 to 6 nights). If she goes in October, it would be over Columbis Day weekend and she would only stay 4 nights so her kids would only miss one day of school. I had thought that crowd levels would be about the same since the holiday weekend would attract a lot of people in October but the "Best Days" link we have stickied shows the June dates as all 8 to 9 crowds and the October dates all 6 to 8. She is also concerned about it being extremely hot in June, but I didn't think it would be unbearable, plus the weather is so unpredictable anyway. So, does anyone have experience with both these times of year? I have been in October but never in June so I have no comparision. When would you choose to go? Thanks! Karen

Re: June vs. October
If weather is the deciding factor, June is very hot, October would be better in that respect. For me, crowds are always the key issue and I always found long weekends to be packed in the resorts, but the end of June is quite busy as well. In this case the fact that would decide it for me has to be the ability to stay longer in June. We stayed 4 nights once and it just isn't long enough no matter what time of the year you go. 6 nights in June!!!

I know - the 4 nights vs 5 or 6 would definitely be the deciding factor for me, especially since it will be her younger sons first trip.

Re: June vs. October
I would go for the longer trip in June. Since it is longer they can pace themselves each day and they won't have to cram so much into a shorter trip. As for the weather, we went 1st week of July a few years back and it was HOT, but we just did 1/2 days at parks and 1/2 days at resort hotel, then went back to parks at night. It was very manageable. On the other hand we went the week of Oct 20th last year and it was hot then too! It wasn't as humid as it was in July, but was still hot. One other thing we had a hurricane in Oct too!!! The weather is very unpredictable!!!
My vote is for a longer trip in June!!

Re: June vs. October
I'm a big fan of October, but with 6 nights in June and longer park hours, you'd be able to fit in a lot of down-time as well as see everything you wanted to in the parks.
June!

When it comes to Disney - I'll take quantity over quality any time. I'd definitely go for the longer trip.

Re: June vs. October
We've been both. I'd pick October. It is HOT in June, and the crowds are even more unbearable because of the heat. At night when the park hours are extended, there are still tons of people.
We've actually been over Columbas Day weekend, and although you notice a slight increase in the crowds, it wasn't terrible. Also, she could plan on the Halloween party, which was a blast!!! Also, I say take the kids out of school for the extra day....they're only young once!!! ![]()

Re: June vs. October
Oh, I forgot about the Halloween party! Hmm, that is definitely something to consider. I talked to my aunt yesterday and she is leaning towards maybe taking the kids out an extra day to go in October, but she is still deciding. Thanks to everyone for all your advice - keep it coming!

Re: June vs. October
Having been to Florida and WDW in both June and October, I would definitely choose June. Yes it gets hot in June, but it's Florida! You want the sun and the warmth, and you can always take a dip in the pool to cool off, or go into the very air conditioned buildings. In October the weather is just too iffy, huricanes and tropical storms.

Re: June vs. October
The other thing to consider is June has a LOT of rain! I mean a LOT. Not the usual summer rain where it comes down in a deluge for an hour or so, but rain that lasts all day.
The last time we went in June, we were downright soggy by the end of the week. It didn't stop us, we kept going out to the parks anyway, but boy was it wet. If you do go in June, I'd recommend bringing at least two pairs of shoes per person, or more if you have them.

Re: June vs. October
I've been both times, and there are arguments to be made for both. I love the heat and humidity, it's my kind of weather, but for some folks, it's just too much. June can be pretty hot and humid. I would encourage a longer visit, like you said you can do in June, but I just can't get around all the benefits in October, even with having one day less. In October you get cooler temps, smaller crowds, and MNSSHP. That's a BIG one. We LOVE the Halloween party. It's so much fun...

Re: June vs. October
Thanks again for all your advice! I think I am going to make her a little pro/con list for both times of the year with all the advantages and disadvantages for each for her to look at. It is also looking like it may be a little cheaper to fly and maybe even to stay in October if she can get there by October 4 (last dayof value season). I know her kids really would love to do at least one water park and DisneyQuest while they are there though, and she would need a longer trip for that.
I will keep you all updated on what she decides! Karen

Re: June vs. October
I've been both too and I DEFINITELY say October. Cheaper, better weather, less crowds, food & wine festival. June is really stinkin' hot and crowded.
