Icon5 Early January?

Has anyone visited WDW the first couple weeks of January? It looks like I'll be going during that time period in 2007.

Just wondering about the crowd levels. I would expect pretty low, but I don't really know the school vacation periods throughout the country.

Any advice? THANKS!

Re: Early January?

we went to WDW twice in the first couple of weeks in january and i think it's a great time to go. the crowds are small. the lines are short. the weather is comfortable. it's especially a great time of year to go considering the fact that you're from upstate NY. i should know, being from new jersey, being in 60 degree weather in january when in florida is so much better than being in 20 degree weather in jersey. i say go for it. the florida kids should be in school at that time so you'll be good to go. if you need any other advice, just give me a buzz.

Re: Early January?

Yes from what everyone says that is one of the best times to go. Prob. because 1. It's not summer when it gets really crowded and 2. It's the start of the year and it's right after all the big New Years celebrations. I think that's why it's not as crowded.

Early January is a great time to go. If you go say,the first week(like Jan.2),it is value season and most of the Christmas decorations are still up.

Re: Early January?

Expect marathon weekend, Jan 6 & 7th 2007, to be pretty busy. The traffic on that weekend is pretty heavy too, as people are jockeying around to watch their friends/family run by different locations. I would advise you to avoid Epcot altogether on that weekend, as that's where most of the activities focus.

This past January was below freezing on that weekend, so keep your winter clothes with you.

Re: Early January?

We went the second week in January this year to avoid the Marathon Crowd. During the week was great. The weekend got crowded due to the MLK Holiday. Weather was very warm at first and cold the second half of the trip. I will do January again.

Re: Early January?

We visited last Jan 10 ~ 19.

The parks were empty and the rates on hotels were great.

The weather was in the 80's for the first 4 days, then dropped into the high 40's and low 50's for the rest of the trip which is fine (had we been prepared lol!) One morning of rain (Jan has the lowest amount of rainfall in FL) was all we had. I would definately recomment Jan.

Our next trip will be in mid Nov. and I'm hoping for the same conditions with the weather and the parks.

Re: Early January?

We went Jan. 2-6, 2005 and it was great! Low crowds and some of the Christmas trees and decor was still up. Temps in the 70s. Wore shorts everyday! It was wonderful!

Re: Early January?

I went in early January a few years ago. The crowd levels were super low. The weather was back and forth, but always comfortable. Just be sure to pack sweatshirts and jackets!

Re: Early January?

College students are usually on vacation then also, but I wouldn't worry too much, you'll get a few here and there, but the majority of them are working. (fun)

Re: Early January?

I used to be from New England but have been in FL several years so keep that in mind with this next statement. January is cold some days and hot others, Marthon weekend is always cold, or at least is has been every year I have been here. Its not uncommon to see 30 degree's at night or in the mornings in Jan.

As for crowds there really aren't any. likewise its a time where several attractions may be down for refurbishments and so forth, also some area's may be closed off well decorations are being removed.

Re: Early January?

We went last minute this year during the Marathon weekend - and although the Resorts were sold out - the parks themselves were not crowded.

It was cold by Florida standards; there was a hard frost one night; but compared to a New England winter 50 degrees during the day was great!

Thanks to all for your responses. Since I retire the end of this year, I'm planning to stay at The Villages for all of Jan and Feb. One of my sister's will be driving down with me the last few days of December. I know she'd like to get back to WDW and she'll be staying with me the first two weeks of Jan. Now I know we'll have no crowds (excepting Marathon weekend). Great news!
