New Nametags??

I don't know whether this has been mentioned, but since I'm a cast member, I thought I'd pass the info along. We're getting new nametags at Disney World. And you're thinking, of course you are, the 100 years of magic celebration is almost over. Well, instead of the traditional Mickey Mouse and red background, they are changing to Tinkerbell, blue, with pixie dust. Tink will be at the top along side the words, "where magic lives," so that we can match the latest ad campaign by Disney. They are SUPER cute, and should be out by the beginning of March! :-D :)

I liked the old name tags with your original home town. I got a kick meeting cast members who originally came from my area. Now I have to listen for the New York accent. :D

So does that mean that even the male CMs will be wearing tinkerbell name tags? I can hear the jokes now.... :nooo:

Sicne you brought that up, I remember a conversation we had with a long time CM just before park opening one day. He said that they changed the hometown info on the nametags just for the 100 yrs. of Magic celebration. Each CM was required to list their very first Disney experience to be put on their name tag and that the plan was to return to the hometowns after the 100 yrs. celebration. I hope they do!

They are going back to the hometowns. And College Program cast members will have the option of either putting the college or university they are representing on their tags or their hometown! Not to worry!! And I agree with Mickey....making men wear Tinkerbell nametags is going to get a few laughs....They are also coming out with "Where Magic Lives" on merchandise bags, entrance gateways, and around property. :D

I love getting the "inside scoop"!! Sounds really nice, except for all the males out there having to sport the tinkerbell and pixie dust tags...haha!! I do woner if that means they are changing the gues of honor badges, too. I just ordered (and received) the older red version for my son for his bday basket for our June visit! Hmmmm...oh well, red will have to do for us, already bought!! Thanks for the scoop!!!!:D

I feel overly excited about getting mine...but there is no assurance that I will get mine this semester!! :( I don't know anything about the guest of honor pins...I bought mine way back when (Like, think 1996) and now I have a real one, but so willing to trade a guest of honor for cast member pin, right? I mean, who wouldn't??? YAY! :)

I just recieved our GOH nametags also. My kids were so excited.
My son wants to be an Imagineer for Disney. I told him this was his first step to being an official CM.
I am looking forward to the Characters calling my daughter by name. Magic truly lives in this place.

If they do change them, we will look like WDW veterans.;)

A CM told us about the hometowns coming back when we were there in Oct. I was glad...there's nothing like finding out that a CM you're dealing with is "home folks."

SPEAKING OF NAMETAGS...........On Tuesday at Epcot my sister and I were sitting in France waiting for our husbands and a very scary man walked up and started talking to us. He was alone and seemed drunk and had a beer in his hand. He was dressed in street clothes and had a RED name tag on and told us he was an imagineer. He told us about work that he had done on resorts, but that anything upcoming was a secret. We tried to ignore him, but he wouldnt go away. When my sisters husband walked up he introduced himself and after talking a bit more showed him his collection of obscene Mickey Mouse pins (I obviously wont go into detail about that!). Not knowing any better and seeing his name tag we thought maybe he did work behind the scenes (he stated he was off work and celebrating his birthday with friends at Epcot since it was free for them) and I have to say we were disappointed that disney would hire people such as this and let them drink in the park. Reading this post I am assuming that RED name tags do not mean disney emplyees. What exactly is a RED name tag? Im so grateful it doesnt mean he works there!

Wow...What a strange person. :madmad I guess they even show up in WDW.

The red nametags are available for anyone to buy. They are only available at WDW. There are shopping services on the internet that will buy them for you and mail them to you. They say "guest of honor" across the top. You can find them with typical names all ready printed, or they can engrave a unique name.

People usually buy them for the charm effect. Cast members and characters will call you by name and greet you a little more specially.

It's a shame idiots have to abuse the nametag privilage.

Just to add a little comment to that...since I am a CM, we aren't even supposed to wear our nametags except for on our costumes or if we're in business attire. That's interesting to know. I can't believe that, I'm sorry that happened!! But don't let it ruin the magic!!
