Re: Where to spend New Years

I've been at WDW for New Year's twice and although I absolutely loved the MK,this year I will be doing Epcot again, because I didn't get back to the Polynesian until 2 am to get my car out of valet parking because of the huge crowds. When I did Epcot,I stood for Illuminations at the bridge between France and the UK and was on the launch at the International Gateway within 20 minutes.

Re: Where to spend New Years

I have never been at WDW during New Years, but I was going to say Epcot. Mickaholic's story kind of backs up my suspicion that it would be a whole lot easier to get out of Epcot (which has TWO entrances/exits), versus the MK where it's a bottleneck to get in and out of the same place.

Honestly? If I ever go to WDW for New Years, I think I'm going to book waaaaay in advance, get a nice room at the Boardwalk or somewhere I can watch the fireworks, then sit on my balcony with my hubby and a nice cocktail. Heehee...the thought of braving those crowds makes me ILL with claustrophobia!

Re: Where to spend New Years

I think it's the crowds that scare me the most for new years eve! Do either of the parks have special events for the night? Like parades or special shows?

Re: Where to spend New Years

I have been at WDW on New Years Eve two times (one time MGM the other MK). I would actually suggest MGM it's alot of fun and there is so much to do. MK is very very busy!! It was filled to capacity and the only way you could get in was if you were a DVC Member (once again DVC comes to the rescue!). Also in MK there were special fireworks but that was pretty much it, while in MGM there were fireworks and 2 stages set up where bands would play and such. I have never gone to EPCOT so I'm not sure exactly what they do there.

Re: Where to spend New Years

We were in Epoct the past 2 New Years Eve's, it was really a lot of fun. Many of the countries have D.J.'s and large video screens. The crowds however were very" Scary"!!!!

Re: Where to spend New Years

A few years back our last day was New Years and we didn't even bother stepping foot on WDW property knowing how crowded it would be. We went to Universal instead and we had a blast!

We were at Epcot 2 years ago for New Year's Eve and it was awful! I've NEVER seen such crowds. I will NEVER go back on New Years again.

Re: Where to spend New Years

I haven't been in WDW for New Years since I was about 13 but if I was again I probably wouldn't be in an actual park. It's just TOO crazy packed. I would probably take advantage of some other festivities; maybe Atlantic Dance?

Re: Where to spend New Years

When we were there at Christmas last year, I had a nice long conversation with a CM while I was waiting on DH, DD, and DS to ride MS for the millionth time that day. The CM was telling me that it is VERY crowded at all the parks on New Year's Eve, but if you had your heart set on being in one of the parks, then you should definitely choose Epcot because it is able to hold alot more people. He was saying that since Epcot is so spread out, the crowds do not seem as bad. We were in Epcot on Christmas Eve and really enjoyed ourselves. It wasn't too crowded, and we did quite a bit more than we thought we would. MK on Christmas Day was a nightmare--never again. Good luck with your decision.

I think Jellyroll's might be pretty fun! Or right in the middle of Pleasure Island, if you like a more thrilling party!

Re: Where to spend New Years

I personally prefer Epcot for New Years. Now, that's only if they still do what they used to... I haven't been there for New Years recently, so...

Used to, each country would shoot off fireworks as the country they represent crossed over into the new year. And after it's all said and done, then a HUGE fireworks event happened out in the middle. I don't remember it being Illuminations, but I could be wrong...

Re: Where to spend New Years

OK I have a fun cp story to share for new years.
Dec 31 2002, I was working speedway that night. For anyone who remembers it was raining very heavy that night and I was stuck out on the track to make sure no one broke down in the rain. Yeah I wasn't under the nice covered queue area. So I got soaking wet and drove around the track in the rain while the fireworks went off. Even though it was kinda fun, I just don't know if I ever want to be at wdw for new years again.....
