New vs. Old Imagination Pavilion

I was just curious to see if anyone else was quite as disappointed with the refurb of Journey into Imagination and Image works as I was. This by far was my favorite ride as a child at EPCOT and that carried through as an adult. Imageworks was always a "must see" for me on every trip. Now, it just saddens me to see what it has turned into. When I last went in 2000, the refurb to the ride was finished, so I got to see that (unfortunately), but Imageworks was still being worked on , so they only had a select few things set up on the way out, which some of them weren't even really interactive. What a bummer! My family went in '04 without me (didn't think they could do it.... had always gone together every other time before....... but alas due to my work schedule, they did ), and they told me that Imageworks was open again and they had a few of the original attractions in there still, just kind of revamped, so I feel there may be hope. Future DH and I will go on it is Sept. nonetheless, but it just won't be the same for me.

Does anyone else feel this same way about it, or do some of y'all like the changes that they have done to this pavilion?

Is there any way guests can go into the old Imageworks? I found some pics someone took on the Internet recently, and most of the attractions were still up there. Here are the pics:

I totally agree. My mom has a picture of me and my sister in the RC, and it was AWESOME! I also loved the giant nailboard they had. I know, 'nailboard' isn't exactly the right word for it, but it was one of those things that has all those blunt nails in it, and you stuck your hand (or whatever) underneath it and pressed up. It then made that impression in the nails. I loved that thing. That's why I've got several now... LOL!

Oh, man, the old way was the best.

I also loved the jumping water then better than I do now...

Re: New vs. Old Imagination Pavilion

Judging from the results of this poll so far, Disney should have consulted us before making changes.

I just don't understand why they changed anything at the Imagination Pavillion. They totally missed the boat on this one. We all loved the old one. Now we only visit the Pavillion if everything else is busy. It's never busy in there - I wonder why?

Re: New vs. Old Imagination Pavilion

i liked the old one, but i also like this new version as well. It's very fun. It also looks like they're doing updates and changes ALL over the resort. The Haunted Mansion, The Imagination pavilion, the enterance song for Epcot. Geez, they're getting drastic.

Re: New vs. Old Imagination Pavilion

what changes are they making to the haunted mansion? i understand that some things need to be changed, but give me a break. there is nothing worse that making a change just for change's sake. they are smart people, and they should know when to leave well enough alone.....

Re: New vs. Old Imagination Pavilion

i've heard various things. I'm not completely sure WHAT they're changing, but yes they are refurbishing some things. I also found out earlier how the "stretching" room works. The one with the paintings and such. Quite interesting.

Re: New vs. Old Imagination Pavilion

i love all of you guys responses to this thread..... glad to know i'm not alone.

ironically enough, while i am reading everyone's posts, i am also listening to mouse radio, and low and behold what is on right now as i am typing?......................

The original theme from JII with Figment and Dreamfinder!

it's a sign i'm telling you, a sign............. bring the original back! lol

anyways, i am not all against the updates, i mean there are some really neat special effects to it. if you didn't know any better, the ride would be great for you, but for us "classic disney types", it just loses something in the translation.

Re: New vs. Old Imagination Pavilion

I have to agree, I liked the old imagination ride better, even though I was only 7 the last time I rode it (I'm 26 now). The new one is fun, (Eric Idle is a great addition as the professor) but I feel like it could've been better. The room with the blacklight, neon colored signs, right before Figment's house, seemed a bit lazy to me on Disney's part.

Wouldn't it be cool if they made a park dedicated to old school rides? For some reason I always liked the old Horizons ride (about space exploration) as a kid and then they tore it down and I never got to see it again.

How exactly does the stretch room in the haunted mansion work?

I believe what actually takes place is the ceiling and walls rise, which gives the optical illusion that the floor is actually sinking. The part where the lightning flashes and you can see all the way to the top of the tower when the "ghost host" is recommending "his way out" is done by a commonly used stage illusion. This is done by using a thin gauzy-like material called scrim, which is painted with the facade of the "ceiling". When the lights flash, you are actually able to see what is behind the scrim because the light makes the material transparent.

I believe this technique is used in other parts of the HM and some other attractions around WDW.
