Pal Mickey

This sounds totally cool. I can just imagine how popular this will be, a Mickey that talks to you as you walk around the park.

I can hear it now: " You are getting hungry, very hungry. How about a giant Turkey leg to hold you over until dinner?"

If you had to name the Ultimate Disney insider, who would you choose? Tops on our list would be Mickey Mouse, the one who started it all. So who's most qualified to show you around the Walt Disney World Resort Theme Parks? Here's a hint - M-I-C - well, you know the rest.

Think it's nearly impossible for Mickey Mouse to tour the Theme Parks with each and every Guest? Well, with Pal Mickey, the talking, huggable plush toy, now you can get the scoop from his ears to yours. It's a totally new experience at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Beginning this spring, Pal Mickey will be available as a daily rental (for a nominal fee) or for one-time purchase in each Resort merchandise shop and in select merchandise shops in the four Theme Parks and Downtown Disney Marketplace. Take Pal Mickey along to the Theme Parks and he'll offer suggestions, tips, and of course, keep you entertained.

Pal Mickey will recommend attractions, even pointing out the shorter lines! He'll help you located Disney characters in the Theme Parks, tell stories and jokes, and play interactive games. And if you've ever lost track if time, Pal Mickey offers reminders about parade and show start times, so you won't miss a minute of the entertainment. With Pal Mickey, you'll experience the Parks like never before.

From May 1 through September 30, 2003, Disney Vacation Club members will receive a one-day complimentary rental of Pal Mickey! Coupons will be available from the Front Desk of your Walt Disney World Resort hotel and in your Welcome Home check-in folder at the Disney Vacation Club resorts. Present the coupon and your member card at the time of rental. A fully refundable deposit of $50 is required at the time of rental. While the rental period can exceed on single day, only one day of the rental fee will be waived ( Retail value $8.00 ). Limit one complimentary rental day per Member family. Offer may be used only once throughout entire duration of the offer period. Rentals will be available at select Resort and Theme Park merchandise locations. Please note that coupons will not be distributed at Disney's All-Star Resort, Disney's Vero Beach Resort or Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort.

How Cool!

In what form will Pal Mickey be? Will he be a talking stuffed animal like Teddy Ruxpin?

It looks just like a little stuffed Mickey, about 10 to 12 inches high.

Is Pal Mickey tied into the new database PDA system they are doing too? I had heard that one was going to also offer running commentary throughout the stay also - or is that a mingling of two rumors?

Hmm, good question, and yes, they are probably related. There was a wireless PDA system announced a while back, which is somewhat related as well.

New WDW wireless PDA

Umm, I think I mean the one that is tied to your online reservation - you check into your hotel and receive your passes right at a special kiosk at MCO - they take your luggage and you are ready to go directly to the parks from the airport. It contains all your itinerary information - PS's, tours, etc. I heard it was also supposed to do the daily commentary thing too, but that's where I got confused.

When I locate the article on it, I'll forward it along.

It seems like a neat idea, but a stuffed mickey?? It seems like the kids will always want to hold it, because it is a stuffed mickey and I know by the end of the day, unless my kids have splashed off in the fountains, they are very stickey from ice cream to pb&j.

I'm just not sure how these will hold up over time.

I'm definately going to use one on our trip in May, but I will buy my kids their "own" mickey's to hold during the day!

If you buy Pal Mickey, and visit the park again in a few months or even a year, will he still work? Will the things he points out and say be different for each visit? Espcially if you go to the same park twice within the same visit. We'll be there in June, and will at least rent Pal Mickey for one day.

I got this yesterday from the AllEars newsletter.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Beginning in April, a new interactive toy will be available for
rent or purchase at Walt Disney World resort hotels. "Pal Mickey
" is a talking Mickey Mouse that can recommend theme park
attractions, remind you about parades and show times, share
stories, play games and help locate Disney characters in the
parks. The interactive toy will rent for $8 per day plus tax and
a refundable deposit. It can also be purchased for $46.94 plus
tax. Starting in May, Pal Mickey will be offered at certain
locations in Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios and Disney
s Animal Kingdom.]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think this is going to be a great addition to the Magic at WDW. I definitely will try and get one on our next visit.
