March 2003 Park Hour changes

An update for those traveling during the first two weeks in March 2003. Park hours at the Magic Kingdom and Disney-MGM Studios have been cut back on some of the nights, and many of the parades that were previously scheduled have been either cancelled or moved to earlier times. Also, the E-Ride night on March 14 has been cancelled.

Unfortunately, this is a sign of things to come. Disney has announced a hiring freeze, the first since October, 2001. They have also cut back hours of part time workers. Yesterday, there were special deals announced for Disney Club members for March, which is a sign that the rooms are not nearly as full as Disney had planned. Look for additional discounts for March and April in the near future.

Will this include discounts for the week after Easter?

I have never paid attention to spring blackouts since I never get a spring break of more than a 4 day weekend. This year we MAY get the week following Easter off due to the fact that we may have to lay off 1/10 of the teachers in my school system. However, we won't know about the extra 5 days off until very close to Easter.

What a nice idea--a short trip to WDW before our trip this summer. I can only dream about 2 trips in one year.

Mickey, have you heard anything about the crowds being less this spring break? A percentage, or somesuch? Are people cancelling their reservations?

We love going then, the temps are just right, the crowds are not too bad.

Our springbreak is March 8-16th.

Just wondering on how much less crowded things will be.:)

I am amazed that WDW can change schedules one week prior, but then again they can do what ever they want. Mickey thanks for the heads up, I did not catch it till today, I tought I was in the clear for park hours changes, NOT! I will have to vent my displeasure of missing BB this trip when I check in.

Our SB is 3/31-4/6. We're going down on 4/2 and returning 4/6.
I sure hope that the crowds are smaller during our SB this year.
:D

:madmad :madmad This totatly throws a wrench into things but I will deal with it, maybe the crowds really will be smaller and we won't have to worry about losing the hour. Looking on the bright side maybe this increases my chances of getting an upgrade!! :D :D (Always a silver lining somewhere) :)

It's pretty scary to see this happening at WDW. I only hope the changes will help the company maintain its entertainment quality.

Any word, or thoughts, yet, on what WDW might do should we go to war? Will they still operate and allow us all to visit?

:hmmm
