bathing suits mandatory at water parks?
My mother is flipping out over having to buy a new bathing suit for the water parks at WDW. She is concerned about her weight and being seen in a bathing suit. Can she wear shorts and a top or do you HAVE to wear a bathing suit to the water parks. I told her not to worry about her weight that there will be heavier people there then her and that everyone will be having fun and not paying any attention to her in a bathing suit. But you know moms !!!!

I believe that if you want to go in the pools at the watrer park they require a bathing suit. Just to go into the waterparks you do not have to have one on. My wife is the same way and she found a one piece bathing suit which came with a pair of shorts that can be worn with it in the water, that really made her day when sh efound that one. Now she goes to the pool alot.:)

Tell her people don't pay any attention also. I did buy the one piece with the shorts, because I hate my thighs and wanted them covered (don't all of us moms worry about our weight! lol). And I was very self conscious going to the pool, but there were people who were of ALL sizes. And no one paid any attention. That is the one place where I actually didn't mind being in a bathing suit. Tell her not to worry. I'm not small by no means, not even medium, and I felt comfortable ;)
Problem with my shorts were, they would get air in them. It was hilarious! They would balloon out and make me even bigger than I was. My husband and daughter got a huge laugh out of them though, and it got to be a joke everytime I would get into the pool for the first time :laugh :laugh

Boy if that's not the truth. You see both men & women of all sizes in bathing suits of all sizes at both the water parks. But I understand the feeling comfortable thing. I'd go with the shorts or skirt thing, too. I've done both & they made me feel much better about myself.

It's nice to know I'm not the only selfconscious mom out there. I love Land's End bathing suits. They are a little pricey but wayyy worth it. I can't stand one piece suits because I hate all of that wet fabric all over me but now that I am no longer bikini material, a lands end tankini totally solves the problem. the bottom covers up my baby battle scars and the top comes low enugh with out being super tight against me. I do agree though that nobody is looking at you. They are too busy having fun and worried about themselves and could care less what the rest of look like

Angie, I've graduated to the tankini thing now, too. I love the way they can accentuate the positive & hide the bad. And I love the convenience of not having to get totally undressed just to go to the bathroom! As a matter of fact, I got a really cute one in WDW in Oct. I found it at the Boardwalk shop. It's a light blue with dark blue piping, & it's got 3 Mickey heads pressed into the fabric on the top. And not that it was too cute I wasn't going to get it anyway, but it was only $32!!!!! I couldn't resist...& DH even said I HAD to get it. Fun, fun, fun!

But as far as being mandatory,
if you mean as in 'you can't go in without one', the answer is no. If your mom feels best in shorts and a t-shirt, that's perfectly fine. She just won't be able to go into the pool areas or slides and such. But there are plenty of spots at the waterparks for people who don't swim to just sit aside in the shade, or get some sun, or even just relax. My 80 year old dad once came with me and he barely rolled up his pant legs just to walk on the sandy bits. He enjoyed just being there watching everyone have fun. And I also agree with the other posters- this is a place to go and have fun - most people are so involved with the "fun" that they don't even notice anyone around them. So tell her not to worry. :-)

Why not get a suit with a skirt rather than shorts??? Shorts still show off your legs/thighs/hips, where as a skirt would be much more forgiving.

I think this is so great...my daughter and I were just talking about suits today for our upcoming Disney trip in July. We have matching suits from last year when she forbid me to get yet another navy blue suit. We just got cheep ones from Wal(give me all your money)mart that had little skirts that tied around. I saw some cute ones in Target today that had the boy type shorts that go with the tops and they now have skirts made just like the boy shorts that are adorable. The nice thing about that is you buy the tops and bottoms serparate.

skirt suits
I have a one piece bathing suit with the skirt. I love it cause it hides (some) of my butt and thighs. I took my kids to michigan adventures park a couple years ago and I was in the wave pool when a kid (about 10ish) came up to me and asked why I was wearing a dress in the pool. I was so embarressed. I was self concious the rest of the day. All I could think of is that this kids mother was probably as thin as a super model and wore dresses that are as short as my bathing suit was. the child must never have seen a skirt bathing suit before. I was at walmart and tried on a bikini top with the shorts bottom and it looked horrible on me. The top was to small and the shorts were to big in the waist and too tight in the butt. I have a horrible shape from the waist down. I am exercising and trying to eat healthy and Im proud to say I have lost 20 lbs. But Im having trouble getting more of it off, Im kind of stuck at my present weight. I have been trying to get my mom to eat healthy and exercise but she has a hard time doing that.

Kim, ignore everyone else. Look in the mirror with that bathing suit on & say "This really flatters my figure" and then go for it. You can't spend your life worrying about what other folks think. I've been struggling with my weight for 18 years now & the only one I worry about looking good for is myself (oh, & DH!).
