How old is too old??? When does your child have to start walking and not riding?

How old is too old to ride in a stroller. We are getting ready for our trip to disney and we keep going back and forth on if our DS is too old for a stroller. (I'll keep his age a secret for now) When do you start leaving the stroller at home and making your child walk?

Way back when, my daughter was 5 or maybe 6, we had a stroller. At MK it didn't seem a big deal, but at Epcot we were glad we did.

Re: How old is too old??? When does your child have to start walking and not riding?

I don't think there is a to old for a stroller....within reason of course. I wouldn't push my 12 year old around...lol I think it depends on the stamina of hte child. Try it out day one and then decide from there. If they moan and groan about being tired after just an hour of touring or if they are "wanderers" get that stroller. I got my DD a stroller when she was 7 for several reason. The most important one was the crowds. It was so crowded and I didn't want to take the chance of seperation..that and she whined far to much about being tired.

I have been wondering the same thing! I think it really depends on the child and how they keep up. Next year my DD will be 3 and she is so short that her legs will have to work overtime to keep up with the crowds, so I think we will end up taking an umbrella stroller for her (or renting one).

This can be a hotly debated subject (I've seen it before). We took each child for their first WDW trip at 5 years old (one right after their 5th brithday and one right before). That was their last trip anywhere with a stroller. We even passed DSs stroller off to another couple at the resort, because we knew we would never use it again.

Re: How old is too old??? When does your child have to start walking and not riding?

I voted "depends on their weight". DD just turned 6, but she's only 38 lbs. If she didn't fit in the umbrella stroller anymore, we probably wouldn't bring it. The only problem is her legs are long and if she's not careful her feet drag on the ground when she's in the stroller!! We will though bring our umbrella stroller in April when she'll be 6 1/2. Normally I'd think this is way too old for a kid to be in a stroller, but I think it'll allow us to be in the parks longer. I also don't want to have to carry her when she gets too tired! I would also bring one instead of renting one since we seem to need the stroller most when getting back to our hotel. DH said we'll bring it and if she refuses to use it, we'll put our bags in it!!

Another reason Dana mentioned is the crowds!! I'd be soo afraid of her wandering off if she's not in the stroller.

Re: How old is too old??? When does your child have to start walking and not riding?

I really do think that it depends on the child. I have a 4 year old and she will ask me please not to bring a stroller because she can walk but I know that if I don't bring it I will regret it half way through the trip. I would rather push the stroller around than have to hear...Mommy I'm tired, can you carry me? So for my case "YES to the stroller"!!

I voted for "wait and see" too. Only you know your child. Some 3 year olds can run the entire day and never tire and some 6 year olds tire easily. Size and weight factors in too. It's a personal decision. That being said - I think by 8 they should be using their own two little feet. It's good for them. Builds stamina. lol.

Re: How old is too old??? When does your child have to start walking and not riding?

our kids generally used them at WDW until age 6. Mostly because we could walk faster with one in the stroller instead of lagging behind, also because I knew where they were at all times. Heck, at the end of a long day touring the parks, I wish I fit in one!

Re: How old is too old??? When does your child have to start walking and not riding?

I voted for 6. Last year we didn't get our 5 year old a stroller and I think she was traumatized. She begged us for a stroller this year so we rented a double stroller for our six year old and 8 year old. The 8 year old was really too big but I didn't want to hear her complain for hours about what's not fair.

At age six we left the stroller at home. We rented one in the MK and EPCOT because of all the walking but DD walked DS an DAK.

Re: How old is too old??? When does your child have to start walking and not riding?

My son was 4 1/2yrs old on our first trip to WDW. We walked, no stroller, but we would have moved faster with one. He didn't want one as it was "for babies". I wish he would have agreed to ride though because he was really wiped by the late afternoon of walking. Last year he was almost 6 and had at least as much stamina as the rest of us.

ugh .. I couldnt vote .. I think Aloha_stitch was 7 ..the girls decided when they didnt want a stroller any more ..of course that meant we had to keep a closer eye on them ... because they could just run off so easy out of your sight.

With the exception of Epcot, we stopped using them at 4 years old.
