DD wants to ride Space Mountain

DD measured herself this morning (she just turned 6) and the first thing she said was: "I'm 44 inches, now I can go on Space Mountain!!!" I don't think she knows what Space Mountain really is other than knowing that she wasn't tall enough to try it on our last trip. She loves roller coasters but doesn't like the dark! She loves the Barnstormer and Big Thunder Mtn, but those are both outside. Do I try to talk her out of wanting to go on it, or do I have her try it and hopefully she'll get over her fear of dark rides????

Re: DD wants to ride Space Mountain

I'd have her try it, IMO. But once you're inside the actual building and you can see how the scenery is, she might change her mind about riding.

I say give it a shot.

let her try it, I mean she will see part of it during the walk to the ride .. she will have the option to change her mind ..or you could even go on the peoplemover ..you know it goes through Space mt. give that a try first

Re: DD wants to ride Space Mountain

I'd let her try it...Definitely explain that it is in the dark, that you will be right there with her and she is totally safe on the ride. I am sure she'll be ok..My son HATES roller coasters...decided this last trip to try SM (he was 5) and he loved it better then any other ride @ WDW.

Re: DD wants to ride Space Mountain

I would let her try it as well. You never know.... Mine would do anything I would let him do even if he was not tall enough to do it....

Let her try - Mikie rode when he was 5. He loved it! (he was also near tears - but said "I wanna ride it again!" LOL!

Re: DD wants to ride Space Mountain

My DD has been on it since she was 4 or 5. The first time she said "That was scary. I didn't like that." Quickly followed by "Can we do it again?"

Re: DD wants to ride Space Mountain

My son hasn't asked to ride it yet...but I think he will be tall enough this trip. He turns 6 today. I don't know what I'll do if he asks... I'm paranoid because he's so light for his age, just because he's tall enough I'm not convinced he's "big" enough. I don't think his dad will want him to ride either, so we'll just play it by ear and see if he asks.

I agree my youngest is tall enough for most rides but she is a stick so I too am worried about that also. She was 3 3/4 last trip and was tall enough for TOT and wanted to go but we wouldn't let her yet since that was a big jump from the other rides she had been on. I measured her not to long ago and she is just over 42" -43 with her funky tennis shoes and she is planning on riding everything next May. What we learned with the 2 other DD's the hard way is have them go on everything else first, the stuff they love already and then work their way up to the bigger rides. We got them all on splash mt and oldest on space mt last time and they loved it but it was the end of the trip so they had time to settle in to the magic and rides.

I can't help but call it peoplemover either. I don't think I have ever called it by TTA....and I would take her also. If she doesn't loose her nerve before she gets to the ride she should be fine. My DGD rode it when she was 6 and my DD when she was 4.....no height restriction then!!

That was always my fear with my son, He was a light weight when he was young and I was always afraid he would fly out. We ended up letting him start when he was about 7 on bigger rides. I can't remember but I think he weight about 45/55 pounds.
