Star Wars Ride at MGM

My DS keeps talking about wanting to go on this ride. I havent been on it but assume it is similar to Back to the Future at Universal. The movement definitely is not for DS (he doesnt like rides that move around like that). I read they have non-motion seating. Anyone ever sit in these? Will a 4 yr old still get a kick out of the experience?

Also, the 3d movie Muppets...never did that either. Anything scary like the snake jumping out at that other 3d movie? Or is it equivilant to Philharmonic? (although nothing can really compare to that ..it is too cool!)

24.5 hrs from now and we will be heading north for WDW!!!

Re: Star Wars Ride at MGM

If I remember correctly, they call it a "Flight Check" at Star Tours. They only run them when there is not a huge crowd. You actually go into a simulator with just your group so it is fun to have it all to yourselves. My 3 year old had been a great sport about not getting to go on some of the rides the 5 year old went on because of the height issue. The whole family was excited when we found out about the Flight Check so we could all go together. DS3 loves that he gets to ride the Star Wars ride and doesn't know any better as far as the motion goes. I like it fine myself. If you don't start looking around the room and just stare at the screen you kind of get the feeling anyway but to a much lesser extent. DH took DS5 back to ride the regular way so he wouldn't feel like he missed out but after they came off DS5 told us he didn't care about riding it the regular way and he liked riding it with the whole family better.

The Muppets 3D show is not miss for them as well. We usually see it several times during our trips. They don't find anything scary there. It is a much more gentle show (like Micky's in that regard) than EPCOT's HISTA.

Re: Star Wars Ride at MGM

It is basicly a moving movie theater...not to spoil anything but the ride only moves up and down side to side. The whole theater moves so all the seats move. I haven't read Back to the Future so I can't do a compariasion.

Over all Star Tours is pretty tame. Muppets is pretty tame as well. Lots of flying chickens, bubbles and other cute effects. It does have gun play.

Star Tours is nothing like Back to the future.
Stars Tours is very calm in comparision.

As for Muppets, it is a must see for all ages. Nothing scary there at all.

Star Tours gave my husband motion sickness.

It ruined his day.

Star Tours is def. Tame in comparison to BttF but, I also got motion sickeness from it the last two times I rode it, and I've NEVER gotten sick on any ride :( IDK what it is about the movement, but blah..

The big thing about Star Tours, to me, is that it's LOUD. DS5 really wants to ride it, but I'm bringing along some earplugs.

So do you have to ask when you go up on line if they can do a run without the motion? That would be great as my hubby & I both get motion sickness.

Re: Star Wars Ride at MGM

It's really not that bad. My 6 year old waited three years to go on it(height reqmnt), we went last July he must have rode it 8 times. Give it a shot.

Re: Star Wars Ride at MGM

We had to ride startours 3 times with our sons- just 4- in February! They loved it! But they also love Soarin', and Tower of Terror (crazy kids- just like their Mama ). I'm on the fence about my 3 year old- not sure if he'll be able to handle it this year (well thats if he grows another inch by January- he's stuck at 39 inches!!!!!)

Re: Star Wars Ride at MGM

I really, really, really, dislike Star Tours. I get migraines and Star Tours almost always triggers one. DH loves this ride and always wants me to ride with him. Needless to say I spend the entire ride staring at my feet.

For someone without this problem it is really a pretty tame ride. I don't know how much a four-year-old would enjoy it unless he was really into Star Wars.

Re: Star Wars Ride at MGM

Add me to the list of non-believers in Star Tours. It makes me feel bad for hours, so I don't ride. I wasn't aware that there was a motion free option. I think I would just skip that as well (seems kind of boring without the motion). I'm only slightly prone to motion sickness, but it makes me sick.

Yes, you ask the CM that stands out in front and they check for you if it is available. If there is a big line though they say no. They told us to check the times guide and don't even come by to check right when Indiana Jones or LMA lets out because they always get big lines then.

Re: Star Wars Ride at MGM

Last trip my DS wanted to go on Star Tours during a parade, so there was barely anyone in line. My then DD (3yrs) was too young to go on this ride. When I asked to do a child swap, the CM asked me if my DD wanted to go on the ride without motion. I didn't even have to ask.
