What to do about child??

I had this problem last year and not sure what to do.. At the parks, when my son gets overly tired, he gets nauseated and usually by dinner time he cant eat and we end up going back to our room and miss the fireworks, ect. every night we were there this happened.. he is a small 8 years old, 47 inches tall and a whopping 60lbs..Do they have, I hate to say the word "stroller" for bigger children at the parks?

Re: What to do about child??

Those stroller held my DD at age 6, so they can definately hold him. Take mid-day breaks for this child. Tour the parks early morning, leave at or after lunch and then take a break at the pool or in the room. Go back out for your dinner and then head to a park at night to watch a parade or fireworks. He just may be one of those people who need a break. If he is getting sick cause he's so tires, I would highly suggest you take the break. I am also one of those people. If I don't have some kind of break by 2pm, I am compltely miserable.

Re: What to do about child??

At lunch time, go back to the resort, have a light lunch and either take a nap, or a calming swim at the pool. Anything to give him some down time. Even an hour off will work miracles.

I concur. One of our kids gets heat stroke, so chilling out in the room in the afternoon is key if you want to make it at all into the evening. I would also suggest a lot of water. Good luck!

Re: What to do about child??

Thanks everyone! I had thought my son would be able to keep up with us, I'm not exactly the vision of health and he is normally a very active child..
I was fourtunate enough to get Tower Magic Kingdom veiw room at the Contempory this year, on our Florida residence, just in case this problem happens again, we wont miss the fireworks.. I just felt so bad for my son last year, we were having such a good time and then to have him get ill at night made him feel bad.. We will definetly take lots of breaks this year and if he doesn't mind, maybe a stroller..

Try the stroller...he may welcome that. I didn't think my DD would go for it either at 6, but she looked relieved when I suggested it..lol Heck, I wish somoene would offer to push me..lol The tower room will be a good idea. Be sure to request a MK view.

Re: What to do about child??

My 7 year old fit in a cheap unbrella stroller last summer and would have easily fit in a WDW stroller. I think if I were going to rent one I would get a double so there was plenty of room.

I feel just like he does! Grab yourselves a stroller, take a long pool/nap break in the middle of the day, and go have yourselves some fun! No worries!

Re: What to do about child??

I got a stroller for my DD last Oct/Nov and she was 7 going on 7, but she was just under 50lbs at the time.
Anyways, when we went to Epcot we got the stroller because even though my DD can keep up all day with me, Epcot is very BIG and I thought she could use the break, which she did, also she likes being pushed around! LOL

Anyways, I agree with the mid day break, maybe that is all that he needs!

Re: What to do about child??

This is a tip for everyone: make sure you're drinking water so you aren't dehydrating. Florida sun can be pretty brutal and it takes no exertion on your part to cover yourself in sweat. And don't forget to take breaks from the sun and heat.

I agree with everyone. We always take breaks in the afternoon to swim or nap.We have found this to be very good advice.

Re: What to do about child??

I think strollers are a great idea for any child, no matter what the age, who needs them. I also agree with the afternoon break. We always take one. It energizes us for the rest of the day.

Don't forget about an afternoon snack. Depending on when your eating lunch your child may also be getting a little weak and hungry from all the walking.

Re: What to do about child??

I would say go for the double stroller - it not only has more room for stretching out, but if he falls asleep, he can curl up more, using a jacket or something for a pillow. Taking a break is great in a stroller, but if he wakes up with a stiff neck from being so uncomfortable, it won't have helped much. Besides, a stroller is great because you have somewhere to store all the stuff!

I am in agreement here too. Just don't push your child. You see so many parents forcing their children to 'keep' up and have just 'one more ride then we will take a break' etc etc. Just remember they need more rest breaks than most and I am sure all will be well. I know last time we were there we utilised the baby stations for our daughter (21 mths at the time) and found them a god send. This time we come though, she will be nearly 4yrs and although we are going to use these stations again, we will most definatley take some time out back at our resort hotel each day.

Have a wonderful time!
