Splash Mountain Closed in January

I can't believe it is going to be closed in January. I'm going in January and it's my favorite.

Re: Splash Mountain Closed in January

I love going to WDW in January. Low crowd levels, lower prices, usually decent weather.

The downside to all of this is that parks close earlier, and a lot of attractions are closed for refurb. This is the price you pay for going in January.

All in all though, I still recommend January for a WDW trip.

Re: Splash Mountain Closed in January

I am really looking forward to the trip. I think it will be a lot different from my previous trips because the parks close early, so I will spend more time at the resort and I am also going to Jellyrolls and maybe the comedy club. Usually we are at the parks from open to close.

You will not regret choosing January. There are cases where the weather is very cold, but I for one, like going to parks in jeans instead of shorts sometimes, and not suffering from the unbearable humidity.

Like Andrew said, although January is a GREAT time to go, there will be rides that go through refurbishment during this time since it's not that crowded. I wouldn't be too disappointed. You can ride it 10 times on your NEXT trip! There's ALWAYS a "NEXT TRIP", right?

Re: Splash Mountain Closed in January

Aw, I am sorry that your favorite is going to be closed!

You will still have a WONDERFUL trip though, I promise! I remember I was devastated when I took DH to Disneyland for the first time...Indiana Jones was closed, and the Tower of Terror wasn't due to open for another month! I felt like we were missing out on 2 of the very biggest attractions. But we had such a GREAT time, we never even noticed anything was missing!

Re: Splash Mountain Closed in January

The first time I went to WDW Big Thunder was closed for refurb, and I didn't even know it was there. My wife, who had been there before, should have said something. Lines were stupid for Space Mountain, so I said, "next time". and it was, not only did I ride it next time with little wait, my first ride on space Mountain was with the lights ON! That's never happened again. First trip to Disneyland, Matterhorn was down. Last year it was back, but no Space Mountain, missed the new one by a month. I can't think of a better month to close Splash Mountain. Crowds are low and there's a better chance that there will be days it'll be too cold to ride anyway. 55 would be too cold to ride. 60's probably too cold for water rides in Florida.

Re: Splash Mountain Closed in January

Last time they rehabbed that, it was closed in the mornings only. Are you sure it's closed completely? They must be doing a total rehab instead of a new paint job...that's a shame for you. I agree that you are missing a big part of MK by missing that attraction, but the bright side is, you can always go back and do it twice as much to make up for it.

I also agree with ingamba about January touring. that is my absoulte favorite time to go to WDW. If it weren't for DD missing so much school that time of year, it would be the only time I would go.

Re: Splash Mountain Closed in January

With the temps being so unpredictable in Jan and Feb, it's actually the best time to do the rehab. I know we will only go on Splash when it's warm out.

Brrrr....

Re: Splash Mountain Closed in January

I guess January is a lot like September. Last year, there were tons of rehabs during our trip. The biggest was the entire Living Seas being closed for the Nemo rehab. My husband still did divequest, but we weren't able to stand around and watch him. But, it gave him an excuse to do it again this year, since Nemo opens just before we arrive!

I might have to think about fitting it in next week. I could use some sushi.
