Hey Jolanda

Welcome to DisneyCentral.com. Sorry, but I had to edit your post. If you were a member that had been around for a while, and contributing, and we all knew you, then great, get the word out on your site. But, since it is your first post, and it is basically just an advertisement, I am going to have to edit it.

So, does anyone else feel this is a acceptable for me to do, or should I let things like this go?

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing, Jolanda. I took a quick look at the home page, and I plan to go back again when I can spend more time on the site.

Oh, Mickey, I just noticed your response to Jolanda. I certainly do not have any concerns about your editing (a new) (or any) member's posts. You are the Administrator, after all! Isn't that in your job description?;)

Jolanda still has the opportunity to participate in DC, too.

Thanks for your input Lopo. I try not to edit posts, and have only done it once or twice, but in this case, I felt that I needed to. And if she shows up again, and becomes an active member, great, I will fix it. I don't mind if Michael Darling posts info about his ToT site, and the same would go for anyone else.

By the way, if you run across something that you find of interest, that you would think would be helpful to others here, go ahead and post it. I don't have a problem with other sites, we don't do everything here. I look at other Disney sites all the time, I just don't think it is right to show up on day one and advertise your own site.

Hi Guys,

I really don't mind...but please delete the psot entirely and not just edit it. The post looks really stupid now and it is a great site so....it isn't right... If you would do that for me thanks.

Jolanda

I am going to leave it up for a while just so I can get opinions about what I should do in situations like these as an administrator. I visited the site, and I think it has some nice things to offer, specifically the newsletter.

If people think I should have left your post un-edited, then I will put it back as it was. If they think I was correct in editing it, then I will delete the post.

OK? Sorry, nothing personal, I like the site and all, it was just how you went about it.

Alright I understand your problem, it was put it on to promote the site so your absolotuly right about the advertisement. I hope people decide to leave it on...but you already guessed that ofcourse.

This is just an e-mag about Disney written by fans...and it is such an wonderful project filled with such enthousiasm..it keeps amazing me how much people love Disney. And for all of you who are on line right now...

A lot of you will know that the Walt Disney Studios Paris are opening today/tomorow and you can follow it live at their website...it's amazing I've been looking for quit a while now...there's a link to it on the official Disney homepage

With Love Jolanda

Mickey...I agree with you 100% If it was someone who posted all the time and supported this site, I think it would have been o.k., but it was definately just an advertising. I know at times you will even say "click here" to find something specific we have been looking for, and I really appreciate that. But just for another Disney site (newsletter) I'm happy with the one we have here.

Anyone else agree with my thinking?

Mickey,
I think you did the right thing. A couple of weeks after I became a member, I had asked you if I could name a limo company(it was Tiffany Town Car) that had given me a great rate for when I go in late June/early July. You had said it was fine, and then I posted it. The difference was that I had already been a member, had already made several posts, and also asked if it was ok first. Jojo, I hope you become a member/regular contributor-it seems like you have a lot to offer, but if all you wanted to do was advertise a web site without making further contributions to DC, I feel that Mickey has no choice but to do what he did-otherwise DC becomes something it wasn't meant to be.

Uh... did I screw up?

My humble opinion would be if a link to another site is obviously informational and not advertising it is a contrubution to the discussion and information sharing at DC. But that decision rests with the staff: the administrator and moderators (when found necessary on the forums).

Michael....you can NEVER screw up. After all You're our Grand Giver :) I'll never forget, you and Mickey were the first people who welcomed me to the boards here. And you made me feel really welcome. You told me about Scary Rides to avoid taking my DD on and about Dinosaur. I still laugh about your description of dinosaur :D I appreciated it so much how helpful you all were. And I think we have a great board here at DC with wonderful people.

About the subject of the link....I just had a problem with how the person went about promoting the site. We've had a lot of people here that give links to other great sites and I think all of us appreciate that, I know I do, but it's always been done in a helpful manner and from someone who is actually making posts here. There is one other site I frequent a lot, and I know it is irritating for them to have people just sign in and make posts promoting new sites. If someone is going to do that...then they should at least put Something into our boards here. I am curious as to how others feel.

Mickey - I think that if you have viewed the site & it isn't pornographic & it is just what the poster says it is then it should be OK to leave it as is. I haven't had time to look at it yet but judging from the other replies it sounds OK!

After going over this, and looking at everyones opinion, I think I am going to stick with my initial decision. I don't want DisneyCentral to become a place for free advertising. I have several friends who operate large boards (over 20,000 members), and they have a constant fight with people becoming members and posting links to other sites and then disappearing. The majority of these sites are pornographic in nature, or at least trying to sell something. I really don't want this to happen, so I will stick with the current course of action.

It is acceptable to post info about a site that you have found to be helpful, and others would find to be helpful as well to the boards. If you have an interest in a site (ie. ownership, or a moderator/contributor of some sort), I would prefer that the mention of that site is not the first post you make. If you are an active member, or even partially active, and a topic comes up that you can address at your site, then great. But please don't respond to every post something similar to the following: "Visit Disneyxxxxx.com to get the answer, it is an awesome site!" I have no problems whatsoever with putting your site into your profile so that it links to your site when you click on the "WWW" button under each of your posts. I also have no problem with Michael Darling posting about his ToT site, or others that he knows of, and that goes for anyone else who is active, or may become active in the future. We don't have all of the information about Disney here on this site, and others do a great deal better than I could do. I decided to focus on one thing, reviews, and go from there. So, the use of other Disney sites is mandatory in planning a trip. I post links to them everyday, and others do as well, which is totally acceptable.

One last note, it is irrelevant if the site is Disney related, pornographic or a link to any other site. The rule will stand regardless of the nature of the site.

Off the soapbox... I just wanted to thank everyone for their input, and if you have something to say, please post it in this thread. I have nothing against the site posted in the first message, in fact, as I said before, I found some of it beneficial. If someone else were to run across it and mention it, that would be totally acceptable.

I realize I'm a little too late. The forums I moderate we try to keep advertising to a minimum. Members try to sneak it in time to time, but we try our best to keep it out. It is clearly stated in our forum rules.

However, I do select Senior Members, Mods, and Super Mods; and allow them to put links in their sigs. I feel this is a fair reward for their great contributions to the sites. I have no idea what the site was about, but you (Mickey) have to stick to your rules!
