I'm Going to WDW in May, is this a good time?
I've been to WDW eight times, and the usual times I've gone are April and February. Once in Sept and Aug. Now, I'm going in May, which is a first. I was there last year in February.
Has anyone gone in May? In your personal opinon, how are the crowds? How's the heat, as well? Any other info would be excellent. |

I've been told that the time between Spring Break and Memorial day are slow going... but I don't know for sure as I've never been to WDW around that time. May is a summer month, so plan accordingly. Florida summers (especially Mid June) can be sorta wet now and then, so be sure to take more underwear than you think you need. You think I'm joking about the underwear? Ha! :)

:) We went to WDW several years ago in May. The lines for the big rides, i.e. Splash Mountain, were long, but besides that the lines were not that bad. We had no problems getting reservations to any of the restaurants or shows.
The weather was so/so. Some days it was very warm, other days it was very cool; so bring clothes for both types of weather. Have a great trip! |

My family went in May of last year for Mothers Day, I found the crowds heavy to average, but I did not expect the heat.
You will have to pace yourself, and hit the water parks and pools. It can't be as bad as when you went in Aug and Sept thow. :)

Please ignore what I said about May being a summer month... It's not. I think I need some sleep...

Thanks a lot, everyone. Does anyone know of any new rides/attractions since last year at any of the parks?
And maybe this has been brought up before (I am new here), but what does everyone think of the "Fast Pass" innovation? I think it's great and helps you experience your favorite rides better. A great thing for Disney to have created. |

Fastpass Generally Rocks
We like Fastpass, but I will admit that it took a day or two to get used to. It makes you plan on your feet in the parks which was something we weren't used to doing. A couple of times we picked up Fastpasses and realized that we didn't have enough time to go to another attraction (duh!) or that the Fastpass was for later in the day and prevented us from using it during peak afternoon hours (doh!) or that when the Fastpass time came due we'd probably be on the opposite end of the park.
It's not rocket science though... :) Eventually we got the hang of working Fastpass into our plan. If I'd have any complaint about it, I'm not sure why some attactions have it. Maelstrom, Living with the Land, Haunted Mansion, and some of the shows? We never had to wait long for Living with the Land, but the non-Fastpass lines were hideous (over an hour) the last time we were there - they had obviously distributed too many Fastpasses. Maybe they were just working out the kinks though... Bruce |

I would have to agree. Living with the Land is one of my all time favorites, but ever since they installed the fast passes there, the lines have gone from less than five minutes to over an hour. I think people just look at the map and see fast pass, and those are the things they hit first. |

Thanks for the info again everyone. I have another question:
When I was there last February, the "ski-lift" at Magic Kingdom, that takes you from once part of the park to the other, was shut down. Has it been re-opened or is that attraction gone now? Thanks. |

Actually, it has been totally removed for a while. The skyway was removed in 1999, and there are very few remenants left to even suggest is was ever there. The starting point in tomorrowland is still there, but somewhat disguised. The swiss chalet in fantasyland is now closed. Rumor has it that it will be turned into an upscale Swiss restaurant.
The skyway in Disneyland was closed in 1994. It used to go right through the middle of the matterhorn. The hole has now been filled, and you can't even tell that it was even there. Notice any difference today when you walk through Fantasyland? |
