The week after Christmas.

We were wanting to plan a trip to WDW for 3 or 4 days after Christmas and I'm a little hesistant. I know that it will be crowded beyond belief, but my wife seems to think that it may not be so bad because our very first trip to WDW was the week after Christmas in 2001. That trip was just after Sept 11th had happened and I think a lot of people did not travel for many months following which may explain the "lower than normal" crowds.
We've been to WDW during "Spring Break" which is also known to be very crowded, although I did not enjoy myself as much as the trips that we've taken in September.
Anyone have any tips/suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: The week after Christmas.

I've heard it's a nightmare. I don't think I'd do it, unless I was prepared to just walk around and enjoy, and didn't want to see any attractions.

Re: The week after Christmas.

I have been there the week after Christmas about 3 times. I did not enjoy those trips nearly as much as other times of the year. It is so crowed. We literally got stuck on the bridge to Frontierland during the spectomagic parade. Hundreds of people on the bridge pushing to get where they want to go is scary. I love Disney any time but if I had to chose I would avoid the week after Christmas.

Re: The week after Christmas.

Also some days we were at DW Magic Kingdom was closed to incoming guest because they had reached capacity. I was there with a sports team so we didn't get to chose the time of year we were there.

Re: The week after Christmas.

Yeah, a friend of mine who is a WDW veteran (he's been several time - twice with me) told me his parents want to take his grandfather to WDW the week between Christmas and NewYears! Grandpa is old and frail, and would have to rent a motorized chair. But, he's never been, so the rest of the family thinks he should go. Note - it's the family who thinks he should go. Grandpa isn't asking to go.
My friend and I think it's crazy! His parents (who haven't been to WDW in over 20 years) have no idea what they're getting into. He's tried showing them the Unofficial Guide's estimated crowd levels, but they just don't get it. His parents are in their 60's, and grandpa is in his 80's. They'll hate it.

Re: The week after Christmas.

I hate huge crowds. I'd avoid WDW that week at all costs. But obviously, there are an awful lot of people who don't mind.

Re: The week after Christmas.

What about the week after New Years? Is that an option for them. There are so many people and it will be so hard on someone elderly.

I think you're exactly right. Christmas will be packed.

Re: The week after Christmas.

I have never been there the week after Christmas. But one year we were there from the 16th to the 23rd. The first couple days were nice, but by the 22nd , 23rd it was packed. Very long wait times and crowds of people.
By the 23rd we were ready to go home! So I can not imagine how packed it would be after the 25th!

Re: The week after Christmas.

Well, the week after Christmas has been scrapped. There are no value resorts available.

We are now looking into the 20th - 23rd and coming back home the morning of the 24th.

According to this...

TouringPlans.com - The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World

it looks like Sat would be the busiest of those days.

OK, understand that this is coming from a family who HATES crowds.

We've gone two Decembers in a row, 2004 and 2005.

In 2004, we went from the 15th to the 22nd. Last year, we went a a few days earlier and for only 5 days.

During the 2004 trip, the first 3 days were stupendous! There were no lines at all. But Saturday and Sunday brought crowds and Monday brought hoards. To us, it was REALLY bad and really tiring.

Fortunately, this was our 3rd trip in 18 months and we weren't really afraid of missing anything. But if it was the first time in 5 years, it would be frustrating.

Last year was spectacular. The crowds really never got going. We arrived on the 8th and we had a GREAT time. (Trip Report: http://www.mousebuzz.com/forum/trip-...tml#post365020)

I would really hesitate to go that close to Christmas.

Re: The week after Christmas.

We are not big into crowds either. The closer you get to Christmas the busier it gets, and it will be that way until a few days after New Years. If you can wait until then, you will enjoy your trip that much more.

Re: The week after Christmas.

I'd wait until January if at all possible. I've been at WDW right after Christmas and after the last time I swore I would never do it again. It's extremely hard to make the most of a trip when the parks are so crowded. If you can wait until, say, the 15th or so, it will make a big difference.
