A Growing Annoyance

Often I don't nitpick or condesend about things down here but I've lately seen a trend that's really getting on my nerves.

More and more guests are cheapening their meet and greets and their memories with characters by bringing bad choices of parchment to get autographs. Intead of going the extra mile for some magic, guests are just picking up whatever piece of paper they can find that's free. Everything from guidemaps to napkins to even toilet paper. Toilet Paper! Is that all that a characters autograph means to some people?

Please help keep this from growing. Characters will sign many, MANY things for you. Spend a buck at Walgreens and get a really nice autograph book. You don't have to buy one at the parks! Or get creative at home and make a really cool autograph book personalized by you! Just for you! But don't be so cheap as to make a memory worth nothing more than something you wipe your nose, mouth and other parts on.

OK.. I know this is not funny.. but I couldnt help but laugh cause I have seen people just grab whatever...

But at the same time I totally agree with Rowdy... People need to take the time and think about the characters, what makes WDW, more often..

There are all kinds of things you can use to get an autograph. I like to get characters to autograph post cards and then I mail to people back home. I think a lot of people come unprepared for autograph collecting. They don't even know about it till they get here.

I agree. While toilet paper is decidedly not cool, I don't see the problem with using whatever you happen to have on you. It's still going to be special to the child.

My youngest DS treasured the piece of torn paper towel that one of the characters at Uni tore off and wrote a message on for him when he was little.
It's preserved in a scrapbook today.

Re: A Growing Annoyance

I might try the t shirt thing too. Is it better to spread it flat on something for them to sign or get them to sign while you're wearing it?

...probably the former, I'd hate for another character to get accused of harrasment.

ROFL! I bet next trip Dana will be running around with some ultra-low cut tank top, asking Aladdin to sign her chest with a magic marker!

Some people might be collectors of maps? Maybe it means more to them than you know?

Re: A Growing Annoyance

Rowdy,
Your suggestion on a "homemade" autograph book is dead on. A few years ago, we did this as a way to prepare for our trip. It's a great get-ready-for-WDW activity to do with your children.
