MVMCP free picture no longer free?

I had read and heard in the past that if you go to MVMCP, you would get a free 5x7. Now, I just looked at AllEarsNet.COM Review Page - Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party (Magic Kingdom) - Powered by ReviewPost and it says that it is no longer free, but a 50% discount off the regular price for the MVMCP pic.

Granted, DW could probably drink her weight in hot chocolate (she abhors cold weather) that night, but I know for me, getting the free pic was a nice perk considering the cost for the entrance. Now, money I could have used toward getting something else will go towards the pic.

BOO HISS BOO!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree. That was one of my selling points to DH when it came to talking him into going. I was very upset when I got the tickets and they didn't say anything about a picture on them (but they do mention the cookies!! )

I guess I'll just have to talk someone in the crowd into taking our picture!

I think that's horrible!

I think Disney charges ridiculously high prices for pictures anyway, why should I have to pay for the right to get a discount? Seems counter-intuitive.

I can't believe that they couldn't have been more imaginative in creating additional revenue streams.

All that being said, are ticket prices remaining somewhat stagnant? Maybe the lines for the pictures were getting too long and so they decided to charge for the pictures in lieu of a big jump in ticket price?

The "free pic" is usually so-so and it won't break my heart. There are too many other good pictures to be had.

Re: MVMCP free picture no longer free?

We did the Christmas party in 2004 and the Halloween party last year. The lines for the pictures were very long - at least each time we checked. (Someone has to be first I guess. We didn't even try.

The pictures weren't the big attraction at the parties. That said, we LOVE the photo pass system. We use it all over, even requesting special locations or photos. We'll wait till we get home and see what worked. There will be a few clunkers, be we've gotten some wonderful photos.

Re: MVMCP free picture no longer free?

Sort of sad, but...I wasn't too thrilled to get in line and get a pic done.

Can't we just find a fellow tourist and have them snap a shot with my own camera? GASP what a novel idea.

Re: MVMCP free picture no longer free?

The last few years, they had been having a lot of trouble with the pictures (people getting the wrong ones) and major delays in getting them out to people in a reasonable time. I do not see it as a big loss, even though as with everything else, service and perks are going down, and prices still go up.

Re: MVMCP free picture no longer free?

It wasn't there for the MNSSHP either, but it woulnd't have mattered to me if it was. I wouldn't spend all that time waiting in line for it...I could easily get a cm or a passerby to take a shot of me and DD if I really wanted it. I am sorry for those who look forward to it and make it a tradition though...one or two free things at WDW is always nice when you spend so much $$ there.

I do agree with you for the most part; however, for as many pics as we take during our trip (usually at least a 100 or so), we like to get a couple of pics from the photo pass with all the little effects around the borders.

I can see the point that lines were getting out of hand to get the photos and the possibility of them being mixed up. But, I went to WDW for Grad Night in '89, where the park was filled with wild teenagers and I still got a picture taken at the beginning of the evening and picked it up at the end of the evening.

It is a shame again that for the cost of the ticket to have to take away a perk that I would think for them is low to little cost to them to provide.

Just my $0.04

I agree. I can live without the picture, as we take a ton of them during our MVMCP night, but the point is they continue to increase the price while taking percs away.
In my opinion, the price should reflect a decrease because of it.

Re: MVMCP free picture no longer free?

Kinda curious, but where would you go if you wanted to make a complaint about that? I am thinking Town Hall at the entrance to MK. Maybe if enough people were to complain, they would do something about it for next year.

As Ddoll said, maybe the pic is not that great, but the fact that the perk is being taken away but there is still the cost (which isn't going down)

Well it has to cost them something to mail all those copies out, even if the paper is very cheap. Not even Disney gets free postage.
