MK - Clockwise, counter clockwise, or straight ahead?
Just wondering, when you go to the Magic Kingdom, what your strategy is?
I read several articles where they advise you to go counter clockwise, because they say it is human nature to go clockwise. Supposedly you will miss the crowds? We have always used the straight ahead (to Fantasyland) method for my Kids. |

gcbdad,
Ah, but it's also human nature to pick right over left... :dazed If I have my little one with me, it's straight back to Fantasyland and to my arch nemesis Dumbo. If I don't have her, it's back to Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain railroad and then counter clockwise. But... my overriding rule is to always zig when everyone else zags. Bruce

We're the same as Bruce, depends on who we are with, and I always look for the shortest line.
I learned a neat trick, and it's worked whereever I go - head to the left lines. Folks will stop at the right sides first, ignoring the far left.

I agree. We head straight through the castle and onto Dumbo. Even as my kids have gotten older (oldest is 8 now) we still follow this pattern. Seems to work well.

When entering any park at opening, always go to the back left-hand side first (in MK, that would be Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain) and then work your way toward the front in a back-and-forth sweeping motion. Most guests enter a park and work their way from front to back.
And, yes, if given the option, you'll generally be better off always choosing the line to the left rather than to the right. The members of most cultures are programmed to go to the right, but since Disney lines don't discriminate and funnel you to the same place, you'll usually encounter fewer people if you go to the left.

Well, we work counter-clockwise I guess...head straight to Tomorrowland and work the other way. I will say that now that there is a baby girl in our family, things may change since she runs the household. I can see where the Dumbo technique works too.
As for the queue lines, I read several years ago to head to the left as most people choose the right and have done so ever since. Sometimes, I think it ends up being one half dozen to the other, but I have also see it pay off...;)

With my DD we head straight to Buzz, then Indy Cars and straight to Fantasy Land... Hubby gets fast pass for Pooh and gets in line for Dumbo while I ride teacups with DD. Then we just plan it according to lines. Ride Pooh, then fastpass Peter Pan and so on.
All this talk is making me want to be there!!! |

I'm very lucky that I live only 90 miles away and can make the trip back and forth comfortably in one day, although this time I had a mini-spring break 2 night stay at the All-Star Music, which was great!!!

I followed the touring plan in The Unofficial Guide. It worked great. It was a real time-saver. And, there's a little one-page summary in the back, so you just rip that out and take it with you instead of lugging the whole book around. Just a thought.:heart :)
