Just wondering if any one has used Sprint cell phones in the World and how they worked out.

Thanks in advance!!!

Mind if I tag along and ask about Verizon, too? DH needs a new phone.

I use Cingular and it was perfect.

Hated AT&T. My cousin works for Verizon as a computer consultant and they had to get him a cell phone from a different carrier because verizon had too many dead spots! We use Nextel. They are little more expensive but I have fouund the service to be totally dependable. During the days right after 9/11 when I was down in the city the Nextel Direct connect was the "Only game in Town" sort to speak. I was able to keep in touch with my wife and my office and members of my detail with the direct connect when no other cell services were working in lower Manhattan. Now they are going national and supposedly if your home area is included in the national plan (Which our is) you can use them anywhere else in the country that has the Nationwide plan. According to their website Orlando should be on line. But to get back to the initial question. The Nextel phone service worked great while we were in WDW last summer.

As an aside it has also worked great in the dessert between Phoenix and Las Vegas when my brother in law's phone (He lives in Phoenix) would get no signal!

One other thing. We used to carry our phones and Motorola talk about walkie talkie's where ever we went, shopping, the zoo, amusement parks etc. With the Nextel you have the walkie talkie and the phone all in one! And the range is unbeleivable! I have been in Pa and was able to speak with my wife in NY like she wa s in the next room with the direct connect feature!

I also use nextel, and it works great everywhere in WDW. Minnie used to have Sprint, and it worked find, but she now used T-Mobile, which has even better coverage at WDW. Either of the three were great. I am not familiar with Verizon or Cingular, they are not sold in our local market. Oh wait, Verizon just started selling here, but I still don't know anything about it.

I have Sprint, and have no problems with it while at WDW. I have a newer phone (less than 1 year) and have great service. My DH's phone is about 3 years old and his Sprint reception is not as good as mine. My only complaint is I can't pick up any messages, I know I have them, just can't get them.

My DS's have Verizon, and were able to keep in touch with their girlfriends back home just fine.

Thanks - part of my problem (okay, so it's a biggie) is that this close to the beach, the only two services that work are Cingular and Verizon. Nothing else works this side of Route 1. :(

Buzz, asked my neighbor about her mom's coverage in Orlando (Sprint) and she said it was great. There are pockets of roaming at the edge of the city (not at Disney - her granddaugher works there and she visits a lot), but that's about it. Very clear.

Thanks - we picked up his phone tonight - he's like a little kid, but he expects me to program it all (he's got wireless internet, too) and hand it to him. Where's the learning curve in that! :(

Thanks for checking MickeyMac!!!!!!! Sounds like we'll do okay with our sprint phones for now.

We just got back (trip report later). My Sprint phone worked fine in most area's of Disney. I was on analog a few times. As with Sprint service in general it did not work well in the buildings. Also, I had no problems getting my messages. The best thing we did was use our Motorola Talkabout's. We have the model with the GMRS (5 mile range). They worked great! FYI they worked on the Wonder as well even through the ship!
