Opinions on airfare?
My 8 year old daughter is going to Florida to visit her dad the last week of July. (mum is not handling it well but tthat's another thread!) There is airfare on SWA right now for $200 rt. My question is: Does anyone have any opinions on whether I should book now at the so-so price of $200 or wait and see if I can get a better deal when not so many people want to be in the Florida sun in the dead of summer?? BTW... if it makes a diff she's going into TPA not MCO.
Thanks! ![]()

I went through this just recently but flying from FL to NYCity. I kept checking rates and one day they jumped $50. As soon as they came down again, I purchased. I got a good deal with a better airline and a closer airport to the city. If you are not seeing a big fluctuation within a couple of weeks, you may want to go ahead and buy. **Please don't kill the messenger if anything crazy happens like airfare slashed 50% after you buy**;) :D

Elfmaydn, I'm waiting for the same thing. I remember booking rates at $99. from Boston to Orlando... I'm right now looking at a rate of $220, and experiencign the same thing Cinderella is talking about. Do you sign up for alerts and such? For the past two years, Southwest airfare to Florida has gone on sale sometime in April, but there is definately no guarantee, and I don't think it really drops that much. We like Southwest since we can get direct flights.

Elfmaydn, I think $200 is a pretty good fare. Our tickets were $252 RT and when I last checked, they are now $382. I did purchase then at the lower fare, and I am glad I did.
I don't know if she has flown before, but if your DD needs an airport escort (which if she is flying alone, she will) that is usually $30-$40 extra dollars.

I remeber the $99 fares too, MickeyMac. I guess that's what I'm really waiting for!!
I think I'll wait through the end of the month then bite the bullet, if fares go down SWA will give you a credit toward another flight - can't lose that way I guess.Yes, this will be DD's first time flying alone  She's been on many flights with me so airplanes are not new to her at least. I was wondering about the airport escort. I thought someone had told me a while back that SWA doesn't charge an extra fee but it could have changed or my memory could have short circuited, I would believe either! ![]()
