How will the Star Wars weekend affect attendance?

Does anyone know how this will effect(affect? I never know which one to use) our May 10-18 trip? Will the crowds only change in mgm or in all the parks
thanks

I was there for two of the Star Wars weekends, and I can attest to the fact that I have NEVER seen MGM as crowded as it was on those two times.
During my first visits to WDW in the early '90's, MGM used to be the emptiest of the parks. Now when I go, it's always so busy, and on those weekends moreso. However, you must keep in mind that the two I attended, one in 2000 and one in 2001 were around the time of the new movies - anticipation was high for them and so it was very crowded. With the latest chapter still 2 years away, it may just be doable.

One humorous thing occured when I went to the last one. Since I have family in Florida, I can visit WDW on occasion on my own, and for the Star Wars event, since I am a Major Star Wars fan, I decided to go to MGM by myself. Now, I'm not the sort who dresses in character or even wears anything that would indicate I was a fan, so when I got to the ticket window, the lady there tried talking me out of getting a one day MGM ticket. "There are going to be a lot of Star Wars fans here today - not sure if you want to be here", she said, almost disgusted. Little did she know that I was one of those fans myself. I simply chuckled.

Sadly, I will need to miss this year's event. I'll post on that separately.

If you or your kids are remotely interested in the saga- don't be afraid, it only adds to the whole experience.

We really like star wars but we really like lighter crowds more. Hopefully if we go earlier in the week, we won't have too much of a problem. thanks for your advice. Sorry you are going to have to miss this one

It's weird mickaholic, I am actually more panicked than anything. I feel like I only have 3 weeks left and so much to do. So instead of feeling like it's so far away still, I feel like I've so much still to do before we are ready to go. I have to get the 4 in my family packed and buy all those last minute things plus finish making the itineraries plus making sure my parents have all they need to bring. I'm happy and excited but I feel like that I have plenty to keep me busy all the way until we leave.

The panic for last minute details can be a good thing. We have planned this trip for over a year. I remember buying water shoes for my kids in an October clearance. When it comes to preparation, my DW and I have become experts since our last trip in June 2001. As a result, everything is bought, packed, planned, you name it. It's almost a let-down by not having much to do to build the excitement. The only thing I have to do is watch the trip countdown in my posts. It might be nice to have some last minute things to handle, it would take an edge off of the anticipation factor.

That is how I thought i would be, I've been planning for over a year also and although my main focus was trying to nail a great discount, I have spent countless hours "tip" collecting, gathering advice, visiting dc and all of that. I just haven't done so much else, I wish I was packed, I haven't even shopped for my dh yet and he needs alot of new things before we go. The only good thing is, my budget. I've been saving for over a year also and luckily, I will be pretty set in that area as long as I don't go hogwild. I just wish I was better prepared.:nervous

Angie, you are propbably more prepared than you think. All of that tip gathering may not be applicable at first, especially during the planning stage. Once you get there, however, you will be in a much better position to react to many of the little unplanned things that come up. For others, these can be trip spoilers. Armed with some of the best advice from DC, I'm sure you will have a good time.:)

Angie, Please relax!!!! Everything will be just fine.
Remember I told you Joe has his vacation list, if you want a copy , i'll have him e-mail it to you. I know when I read that list, it cracks me up, so if anything you'd get a good laugh :laugh but, it really does help us remember certain things.
I remember one year we almost forgot our Annual Passes. :nervous
I'm suprised the list isn't hanging on the frig yet.:hmmm Just hang in there, and stay calm. Now, if I could only take my advice, and use it on myself , maybe I can calm down. JOANN

Thanks mickaholic! I do feel better now. I'm getting to the point where I'm in the spirit and less worried:) Now if I could just finish planning my itineraries and getting packed and where is that sunscreen?.....

I don't want to add to your anxiety, but make sure you bring plenty of sunscreen and also FILM,because they charge an arm and a leg for it at WDW if you happen to run out.

I am getting to the panic stage for sure. My tummy clenches every time I think of how soon it is! It feels like we have been planning this for so long. It is like I have been totally obsessed in the planning. I cant help but wonder what in the world am I going to do when the trip is over? I will have to find something else to obsess over! :)

I am totally with you!! I've already decided that to fill the void when I get home, I will spend lots of time visiting dc.
