Icon10 Thanksgiving week in WDW

Well we have decided to go to WDW the week of Thanksgivng this year. I was hoping to here from some that have been that particular week on how the weather is, how the crowds are, how early I should book our room and what special things are going on at that time. The Saturday after Thanksgiving is my birthday - am hoping to be there that whole day also.

I think you can never book a room too early. That way you know you will have the best chance to get what you want. My cousins were there this past Thanksgiving and had a blast. They said the whether was perfect and the crowds weren't too bad. They are not Disney Veterans so I am not sure what their idea of a HUGE crowds are - mine are if I have to wait at least 15 minutes to go on something. Have agreat time!!!!

Re: Thanksgiving week in WDW

It is one of our favorite times of year to go. Be forwarned, the week leading up to Thanksgiving is WONDERFUL, Thanksgiving day is OK, the weekend after is crowd city! We did Downtown Disney on the Friday after, and made a pool day of the Saturday after. Sunday was crowded but OK, I think we did AK during the day and EPCOT that night.

We did Thanksgiving dinner at Crystal Palace and cannot say enough wonderful things about the food and service! Another cool thing is the Christmas decorations are up by then.

You will have a GREAT time!

Re: Thanksgiving week in WDW

We went over Thanksgiving through the Wednesday after in 1999. It was the only time I could go with being a teacher so I decided I would deal with the crowds.

We were so surprised at the absence of crowds! We had the Unofficial Guide Tour Guide and used it but I don't think we would have needed to. I don't think we waited more than 10 minutes for anything.

The parks are decorated for Christmas by then and it is beautiful. Certainly a sight to see.

The only iffy thing is the temperature. We thought shorts would still be in order but we were wrong. We wore jeans and sweatshirts most days. I think the temperature could go either way that time of year.

Enjoy!

Yep, the weather can go either way. It could be 80, could be 40. You just have to pack layers.
I've found the crowds to be really big at Thanksgiving, but manageable. I haven't been at that time for a few years though.
Have fun!

We went the past two years for Thanksgiving...this past (2006) year was really busy starting the Saturday before Thanksgiving, but let up a lot the Sunday after.

Re: Thanksgiving week in WDW

We were there in 2004 and left the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Monday was the only crazy day there. It was so crowded that we left MK and went to Epcot, which was still "unspoiled". The weather was fantastic, something around 75 degrees.

Re: Thanksgiving week in WDW

Some of you are indicating that it's crowded at that time. Can we compare that to August crowds??? If that's the case it's completely do-able! We usually go in October when the crowds are small, but we went last August and didn't find the crowds to be a problem at all. I think we have been so many times we only do our favorites and did a lot of Fast Passes.

We have never been in November and I'm really excited to see the holiday stuff. It will be something new I haven't seen.

Where would you eat Thanksgiving Dinner?????

Thanks for the input all!

Re: Thanksgiving week in WDW

I've been in June, July, August, and November for Thanksgiving week and Thanksgiving week was the most crowded of those times.

Re: Thanksgiving week in WDW

THink of it this way, just about EVERYONE is on vacation that weekend. So not only do you have folks like me that go to visit, but you have all the locals for who this is a short drive for a day with the mouse!

And again for a place to eat Crystal Palace is great, I have also heard that Liberty Tavern is nice.

Re: Thanksgiving week in WDW

We are booked for Thanksgiving, arriving the Sunday before and departing the Saturday after. I know traveling will busy.

We were in WDW in April 2006 over Spring Break. It was crowded, but with proper planning we were able to hit everything we wanted. I am not sure how Thanksgiving holds up against Spring Break.

As for many here, it won't be our first visit and it is certainly not our last. We no longer expect to see it all in one trip. We try to pace ourselves, pick a few special things (Last trip was Fantasmic ), and have some fun. Yes, you need to do some planning for a successful trip, but it is vacation - not a full scale invasion. Don't let worrying about the crowds spoil the fun....

Re: Thanksgiving week in WDW

We have been during that week... the only time that the crowd was a problem was on Thanksgiving Day, in Frontierland.... EVERYONE was there! It was really sardine-like. So we took the train around to Main Street, left MK and went to EC, which was practically deserted in comparison!
The rest of the week was normal crowds, and lovely weather.

Re: Thanksgiving week in WDW

We have gone the past three years at Thanksgiving. This year we will go the Saturday prior and leave the Monday after. The Monday and Tuesday are not too bad with crowds building on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday were packed and then it filtered out on Saturday and by Sunday we had the park to ourselves. We really enjoy the holiday decorations and activities. The candle light processional is a must see as well as the Osborne lights. I pull my kids from school to do it but it is the only vacation we take each year.

You've been to WDW a bunch of times since you became a member? How come you're not submitting the obligatory trip report, hmmmm?
