double stroller - rent or bring?

We are taking our 2 and 3 year olds to disney next month. Should I bring my own double or bring a single and rent a double if needed? I'm sure at some point they will both want a rest.

Re: double stroller - rent or bring?

I always tell people to bring their own stroller. It's a long walk to the bus stop or car from the park and can be even a longer walk from the bus stop to your room. If you have your own stroller and the kids fall asleep they can stay in the stroller until the bus comes and you don't have to hold them. If your double stroller is really big you might think about a smaller umbrella stroller that is easy to fold and take on a bus or tram.

A double stroller costs $18 a day to rent, that's a lot of money depending on the length of your trip.

Re: double stroller - rent or bring?

When the kids were younger, we'd take our own stroller for the reasons DT mentioned above plus, we had the type that would recline so the kids could lay back and rest comfortably when needed. Strollers on the bus weren't a big issue either, I was prepared to carry the contents that came out of the basket and get the kids on the bus and DH would fold it up and carry it on. We used a side by side double stroller w/a basket below and a canopy to shield the twins from the sun and rain. It worked nicely.

Re: double stroller - rent or bring?

I was always one to say bring your own stroller - in our case a cheap fold up umbrella one worked well. DT brings up a good point about them being useful outside the park. I will say though after last time when DS was 6 we rented as he was too big for the old one but I still wanted him in one (he just does not move fast enough for me ) those rental strollers push like a dream. I loved it! It was way easier to push.

Re: double stroller - rent or bring?

we brought our own double umbrella stroller (with reclining seats and sunshades, a mesh bag on back for stuff) - it was great. Only complaint, is that when we got on the tram at the end of a long night, both girls would inevitably be asleep, and we had to fold up the stroller, carry our stuff and both girls (3 & 5). Usually woke up the 5 year old tho. Overall, I would rather do that than not have one outside the parks & spend all that $.

Re: double stroller - rent or bring?

We've always brought our double stroller. We have our rain shield, sun shield, reclining seat, etc. The kids are accustomed to traveling with it. We get to use it moving through the airport, Downtown Disney... where ever we need.

We can fit the double-wide everywhere we need - just be sure to use the accessible car on the Monorail. Only the tram poses an issue.

Kids will be 4 and 7 for the next family trip, so we are hoping to get away with the single stroller.

My kids are going to be 4 & 7 (almost) our next trip too - but I am planning on bringing the double stroller again. The oldest is a tinymite (only weighs 45 pounds) so I think she'll still fit. Plus, she gets tired & is willing to take a nap while we keep going. So...hopefully it will work out.

Re: double stroller - rent or bring?

we are bringing our own so they can sleep in it and we have it for downtown disney and for the ride too and from the bus stop etc...
However we are having issues deciding which one to bring! We have a small side by side and a small front and back- both have plusses and negatives!
