double stroller - rent or bring?

We are taking our 2 and 3 year olds to disney next month. Should I bring my own double or bring a single and rent a double if needed? I'm sure at some point they will both want a rest.

Re: double stroller - rent or bring?

Have you thought of bringing umbrella strollers, maybe they could just take turns in one. Or if they sharing issues bring to so they can rest to and from the cars/buses.

The doubles they have in the parks are very large and seem to work well. But they are only good in the parks and you have have to lug some sleepy children around.

Re: double stroller - rent or bring?

I would definatley bring your own. Between the resort and the buses and then back to the room that is a LOT of walking (and carrying, lol!) especially at the end of a long day. If you rent vs. bring your own you won't have a stroller after you drop it off at the end of each day.

And if you are flying, you'll find it handy at the airport as well!

ps. How about 2 separate umbrella strollers or a front/back double stroller? A lot of the gift shops throughout all of WDW aren't really all that easy to manuever through (especially at the end of the day) with a side by side double stroller.

Re: double stroller - rent or bring?

I say BRING YOUR OWN!!!!!!! I, personally, just couldn't justify wasting all that money for a weekly double stroller rental. For that price, you could buy a really nice one BRAND NEW that you can use at home!

I just went in December and brought my double side by side Maclaren. It was GREAT! I didn't have a hard time getting through most of the stores. Some stores are tighter than others, but for the most part, it was TOTALLY fine!!!

Re: double stroller - rent or bring?

I was going to suggest bringing two umbrella strollers too.
The doubles are beastly to try to maneuver around the parks. It will really limit your ability to move from place to place and forget about shopping in the gift stores.

Re: double stroller - rent or bring?

I agree with everybody else. Invest in the $10 cheep umbrella stroller at Walmart (they could be more now, I haven't used a stroller in 5 years) and then look in those child product catalogues for the gizmo that hooks them together. It will probably cost you far less to buy these that it would to rent a double stroller.

Re: double stroller - rent or bring?

Scandal at MouseBuzz!!! This is what we did for many years: Buy a cheap double umbrella stroller, or two singles at KMart. Use them to get the kids through Newark airport, through Orlando airport, through the parks, through the parking lots, and all over WDW... then back through the Orlando airport, WHERE WE LEFT THEM AT THE GATE EACH TIME!

Over the years, we must have ditched 6 or so umbrella strollers at the airport on the way home. I know it sounds very, very bad. Yes, it is bad. Almost like littering, or something like that. I hope some lucky kid got to have our cute strollers when we were done!

What a waste of money, right? I don't know what we were thinking...

Actually - it's not a waste of $$ - you saved way more than renting. I have to confess we did close to the same thing when DS was almost 5. My rule was no more stroller after age 5. Now each kid took their first trip to WDW at 5, and it is a lot of walking, so for each child that was the last time we used the stroller for them. When DD went we brought it home, because we still had DS (who was 2 and had stayed with Grandma). But when DS went, we had no younger ones at home, so we passed it off to a family at the resort.

It was funny, because when we got to the airport after having given the stroller away, DS asked where the stroller was. Now we had told him several times that WDW was the last time he would use the stroller, but I don't think it registered. WHen we told him we had left it at WDW, he refused to believe us - "No, really, where's my stroller?"
