Thank you Park Hopper .. it does help !! lol but my DH (and sometimes that doesnt stand for DEAR hubby *grin* ) said well why would someone lie about being treated badly .. what can I say ...why do people ever lie about stuff .. maybe they just wanted attention ..it happens .. allllllll the time.

And MickeyMac thank you for that story .. I know how my DH feels ..how hard he tries not to draw attention to his self ..how he wants sooo very bad to do the things he use to do with ease. I watch him struggle to walk across the room and not fall down .. I worry each time he has a hard fall that this time he has broken a bone or hurt his self .. btw His dr. has said that he has done some minor damage to his back during at least one of his falls. You have a smart son ..it was that woman who had the problem .. and she is the one that is truely handicapped :)

Tinkerbell and Mickeymac,

My heart goes out to you both. Sounds like you have smart caring families.

I am appalled that some poeple have nothing better to do than worry who is parked closer to the entrance. Give me a break! Do they really think handicapped tags can be purchased at Walmart? They are DOCTORS ORDERS!!! Sheezz!

I agree with Goofette. It is a sad day when "healthy individuals" want the same treatment as disabled persons. I believe they are the ones with a permenant disability in their soul!

We were there last Nov. with Dad in a wheel chair and we almost always were taken to a "special" queing area for wheel chairs. Usually it was inside in air conditioning or at least under cover. Sometimes we were given a "wheel chair fastpass" ticket (Haunted Mansion and Living With the Land I remember) to come back at a certain time to go right in -- like in 20 minutes or so, never very long. We received excellent treatment from the CMs and they seemed to go out of their way to help us. EXCEPT the bus drivers!!!:devil They NEVER helped us!!! Otherwise, try and relax -- you will have fun!! Disney is awesome at helping disabled persons (more so than many other places).

I had heard a while back that Disney altered its wheelchair policy because it discovered that too many unscrupulous people were trying to beat the system and get immediate access to attractions by renting wheelchairs when in fact they were perfectly healthy. As horrible as that kind of deception sounds, we all know there are people out there who would do such a repugnant thing. As always, the few bad apples ruin it for everyone else.

buzzsmommy I remember you posting about the bus drivers not helping that surprised me because in the past we had always seen them get off and help .. .. but actually part of the reason DH decided on a wheel chair was he thinks it might work to fold it up and use his cane when he gets on the bus ..he has one of those canes with the 4 foot thingy's .. because his cane is for balance support.. so short walks like that .. he doesnt feel should be a problem .. thats if we bring our own ...or we can get one at the resort to use ..right now we are thinking that getting him one of his own would be the best way to go.

Park Hopper sometimes people judge too quickly too .. I have over heard comments about people at wal mart on those scooters .. but I always think there must be a reason and accpet it .. I have a bad habit normally of thinking the best of people :) .. I am sure there were a few that did get wheel chairs for the reason you mentioned ..but what makes me sad about that is that they prolly took a wheel chair someone else really needed :(

This is horrible, but last year when we were there, my feet were not ready for all the walking we did...we didn't have a lot of time, so we pushed it much harder than we probably should have. But the only thing that really suffered were my poor feet!!! I took every precaution possible, buying the stuff for your feet (can't think of what it's called now). But I had blisters so bad I could barely walk. The last day I really thought I was going to have to get a wheel chair, the pain was unbelievable, and I literally could barely walk. I looked ridiculous but felt even worse. So I didn't really enjoy the last day but didn't want my daughter and husband to suffer because i couldn't keep up  It really was an awful feeling, but I didn't want to get a wheelchair for fear of how people would look at me, (worried they would think I wasn't being truthful since I had heard so many horror stories about individuals who had done that) Looking back, I should have just gotten it and not worried about what others thought of me, because I couldn't keep up and had to sit a lot while they did things

ewwww you reminded me that I have to take special care of my feet next trip :( in past years I have gotten tons of blusters but didnt worry ... I usually take at least 2 pairs of shoes to switch up ..but after all the horror stories I had to listen to (not to mention a very sickening video) in D.M. class I am gonna have to remember how important it is to becareful!!!

I have friends who use an anti-perspirant on their feet in the morning before they hit the parks and...no blisters! Try it - can't hurt! :)

I heard the same thing about the deodorant on your feet, where you usually get blisters. I heard you are supposed to use a solid stick (the white kind), and that should do the trick. I have yet to try this method, but I will when I go in August!

It probably doesn't matter, but I think the stick kind helps better with chafing which is what leads to blisters.
