Rain & WDW

Hi All, Sorry another thread about weather. Just wondering, I know that during the summer it rains for a couple of minutes around 3PM somewhere in the parks.

I was looking at the weather now for when we are going and it shows a lot of clouds and rainy days. During Jan/Feb months is it just a couple of minutes of rain a day or is it an all day rain thing that happens?

Re: Rain & WDW

We've usually not experienced an entire day of rain and we go every Feb, but last year we did have a couple days that we very cold (frost warnings at night) and if I recall it did rain one of those days. Then again, we've had weather in the 80's with bright sunshine, too (all in the same trip). It's such a mixed bag - but I do think all day rain is rare.

Re: Rain & WDW

If it does rain in jan/feb, it seems more like a "real" rain where it may last a bit longer like it does here in NJ. In the summer months it's usually just a quick down pour and then business as usual.

Re: Rain & WDW

Personally I don't mind the cold.. I'm from Ontario... I don't like the cold but I can live with cool quite well, as long as I'm dressed for it. I just don't want to be cold and wet. But I picked up a couple of rain capes so with any luck the wet part won't be a problem.

Re: Rain & WDW

I was there last year early February and it was pretty much a dress in layers sort of week. The mornings and evenings were very cool but during the day it was nice. It did not rain once.

Re: Rain & WDW

I just got back from 2 weeks at WDW and the weather was a mixed bag. We had some really hot days, some pleasant warm days and last week two really cool days (think early Spring in Ontario). One night it rained steadily all night and rained until about 10 a.m. Then it cleared, but with a cold north wind. So - be prepared for anything. Dress in layers, but you won't need anything more than the kind of jacket you'd wear in a Canadian spring or fall. Definitely bring a poncho - or you can buy "official" Disney ponchos at all Disney stores and resorts. As said above - nothing stops at WDW because of rain. Just put on the poncho and go - don't worry about looking dorky - ponchos at WDW are de rigeuer.

Re: Rain & WDW

Yeah I have no problem looking dorky in WDW. I was even planning on packing some old junky clothes so that I could just through them away and have room for all of my Disney Loot I was going to buy. But instead I went out and just got a new great outfit to wear to Pleasure Island.

Any way, I picked up 4 ponchos so that if we get tired of carrying it around we can just toss it and have another one for next time.

Re: Rain & WDW

This year was the first time in all the years we have gone where there was real rain for more then an hour or so. It started raining one evening and just continued till noon of the next day. Not nice, but considering it had been in the 80s two days before I couldn't complain.

Re: Rain & WDW

we have been twice during January and never had really poor days with weather to be honest. The first time in 2001 was actually lovely weather the whole time and we never had any major rainfall at all, literally tiny showers and it was fairly hot still.
The 2nd time was in 2005 and it rained a little pretty much every day but showers probably lasted 10-30 mins. It was a lot colder though on this vacation and although to us it was still t-shirt weather to us...( coming from the uk where it's wet and very cold most of nov-march ,Florida during this time is a breeze! ), some people were actually wearing gloves some days!!!!!!
It really is not too bad IMO but it can be worse if you are not prepared for it. Take ponchos/rainmacs and a small umbrella if you have one. That way, you are at least prepared for any downpours that may come your way
