Oktoberfest... without the buffet?

HI- We love the music in Germany but aren't too excited about eating our money's worth at the buffet. Are you allowed to go in and sit (and drink BEER) to watch the band without getting the buffet?

That is a really good question, because I am not impressed, after looking at the photos of their food, and would like to sit and maybe just eat a pretzel and have a beer. I know this can be done at Sommerfest, right outside, but how about inside?

Re: Oktoberfest... without the buffet?

thanks- we have eaten there before- it's good- but not the kind of food- unless you are a German food lover- that you can fill up on! One trip to that buffet was enough for our family- The beer however.... now that is a MUCH different story! So good-!

Re: Oktoberfest... without the buffet?

I am not positive--but I don't think so.
It's a large place and you are seated "family style" meaning if you have less than 8 people in your party you'll be sitting with another family. And usually during the performances it is packed in there.
If you REALLY want to see the show I'd recommend going at lunch. It's a bit cheaper but the food on the buffet is basically the same as dinner and the show is the same.
I know Dopey is actually from Germany so the food might pale in comparison to the real thing but for those of us not from Germany the food is actually very good. I like it a lot, but my DH LOVVVVESSSS it mostly because of the filling food, big beers and the performance.

Re: Oktoberfest... without the buffet?

that is what I was thinking- that they wouldn't seat us unless we ate... but I am going to call- I wonder if someone will actually answer me that...
thanks much!

I was just going to suggest lunch as an option too!

We usually go there for lunch to enjoy the show as well as the price! My 3 DSs are picky eaters, but really liked the food here. There was alot to choose from and they all really like the show. It is less crowded too, which is always a plus at a buffet. My youngest always asks to include a lunch stop here every trip.

Oh Dopey - that's just because you are Deutschland Cook Extradonaire! NOTHING is going to look like your cooking and baking - but we ate at Germany last week and it was really good. The pork schnitzel was delicious - I ate waay too much of it. And I've never met a red cabbage I didn't love (and theirs was good!). I didn't see anyone not eating, though. (and the entertainment was fun).

I'm not really into German food and even I enjoy it. We go every trip. I can get my money's worth on the desserts alone!

No, no, no dear Llama, I just looked at a whole bunch of photos of WDW and the photos from Germany were positively disgusting. That buffet looked so dirty and unappetizing, I am afraid, no matter what nationality, ya know?

Re: Oktoberfest... without the buffet?

Haha those picture's dont really do it justice..it looks much more appetizing in person--trust me!

However...picture #5 and the container on the left closest to us contains the most WONDERFUL salad creation ever. It's some sort of cucumbers, onions and tomatoes in a ranchy type sauce.
I could eat plates of just that stuff!

Ok, now you and Llama will be sort of responsible for me making an ADR there.
I will snap photos of the food.
I will have my eyes peeled on that salad.

Hey how about that place for a small M & G? would that be a good one?

I hope if you do ever eat there that you will like it!
However--my great grandma was from Germany and I remember a lot of my grandmothers food being better than what was at Beirgarten so it may pale in comparison to what you are used too...but I hope you like it!

Ahem, can you tell that I don't want to take the blame if you don't.

Re: Oktoberfest... without the buffet?

Dopey dear, it was not a good dining experience for us either. It was fun to sit with another family, (not really for dh though) but the food was un-appetizing to say the least. But the entertainment was fantastic! I wonder if you could call the restaurant directly and ask about coming in for just a beer. Its worth asking about.
