Icon14 WOL Memories

I was thinking since the WOL is closing for good, ()we could all share our memories in it's honor. I'll go first. I remeber when I was 6 (I think) I went to WDW for the first time with Turnwrench, and I got a pic of him rubbing his back pocket by Cranium Command. Turnwrench also says that was the only ride his mom and sister could go on w/o puking (although he and his dad both did )

Re: WOL Memories

It's sad to see anything at WDW close for good of course, but I am glad they are finally doing something with that area. I don't even have any memories of that place because it has always been closed when I have been there.

Re: WOL Memories

I have some great memories of WOL, along with all of the other FW attractions that have been closed. I really miss WOM and Horizons as well.

I'd say my best memories of WOL were seeing Cranium Command, which I liked even more than Body Wars. I just think that Cranium Command was one of Disney's more inventive attractions, and one that epitomized what Future World was about-an educational experience, but one that is done in such a way to keep everyone, even younger guests interested.

I have mixed emotions about how FW has become home to thrill rides, but I really do miss the "old school" attractions that it was built on.

Re: WOL Memories

Thanks for sharing guys. It was just so depressing to go in December and see no one there, and most of the rides closed,( I wanted to leave as fast as I could, the atmosphere was so depressing) I wanted to bring back some of the good stuff.

Re: WOL Memories

I just don't understand why the WOL wasn't more popular. I guess people don't want to be reminded to take care of their health, when they've just scarfed down their 7th ice cream Mickey Bar of the day.

We loved it (especially Cranium Comand) and spent a lot of time in there.

Has there been any reports on what they're going to do with it?

Re: WOL Memories

I haven't heard anything. I guess people didn't want to come on vacation to learn.

Re: WOL Memories

Yeah, it is kinda sad to see it go. I will be glad to see Disney put something in it's place though. Something that they will actually make use of instead of letting the space just sit there........ empty. It was so sad to pass by it in Sept. and not be able to bring Jason in there to play with all the cool stuff I used to play with when I was a kid.

I loved Cranium Command. I thought it was such a cute show and so funny. Since I mostly remember seeing it during my pre-teen and teen years, I REALLY thought it was funny.

I remember playing with all the cool stuff in there with my little sister. I remember making my mom and my nanny watch my little sis and I as we played in the little crooked house where everything was out of proportion. I stood in one corner and my lil sis stood in the other corner and it made her look taller then me. Now we can stand in the same corner and she is taller then me.......... in any normal house!

I remember playing with those big coils. The ones that were hot on one side and cold on the other and neutral in the middle (I think). I also remember the little earphone sets that you sit and listen to all the sound effects. I remember I wanted to sit and listen to the whole thing from start to finish, and my nanny telling me, "Come on, let's go."

It was just one of those pavillions where it was nice to cut loss and play around. Kinda like what ImageWorks was like before they changed it....... (I still have issues with the "new" Imagination Pavillion.)

Re: WOL Memories

WOL was never big for us. We did like Cranium Command better than Body Wars, but they were both rather 'just there' for us. We would like to see FW get back to what it was before, and move away from the fast 'thrill' rides, which is what EPCOT was all about. I guess now a days, you need the thrill ride / attraction to bring the crowds in though.

Re: WOL Memories

Oh, I just remembered, my Aunt Anna used to work for Met-Life. If anyone remembers, Met-Life used to sponsor the WOL pavillion.

On one trip, my Aunt Anna didn't come with us, but she got us passes to he special sponsor area just before getting on Body Wars. It was so cool cause we were invited in and it was decorated really nice in there. I think I remember there being some carousel type thing in there with like tigers and lions and other exotic animals you could sit on. There was a tv and a little viewing area. There was also a soda fountain machine. We were told that we could stay in there as long as we wanted and have as much to drink as we wanted, and then when we were ready, we would be escorted to the Body Wars ride with no wait. It was so cool, cause once we were finished exploring the room and drinking our fill of soft drinks, we were escorted right onto the ride, right to the front row. 4 seats had been set aside in the front row for us. Everyone else was already loaded onto the ride, and then we were taken in to our seats so everyone was watching us receive our special front row seats. I felt like a true VIP!!!!!

Re: WOL Memories

I think Body Wars was my favorite "attraction" in there, but I also remember the whole "here's how babies are made" shpeel made a whoooole lotta sense to me. Which is great cause I think it did half the work that my parents and teachers didn't. lol

I seem to remembering enjoying all the wierd little tidbits inside there, it kind of felt like our science center in Baltimore back home.

Great, now I'm gonna miss it more.
