Icon5 Has Anyone Ever Visited During Thanksgiving Week?

I have plans to visit WDW in August. I was just chatting with my children about what it might be like if we went in November instead. This will be the first time in many years that they will have the entire week off from school and the cost seems to come out about the same. What are the crowd levels like before, during and after Thanksgiving

Re: Has Anyone Ever Visited During Thanksgiving Week?

Very busy! Our last day of our last trip was Sunday before Thanskgiving. There was a huge difference in the crowd level that weekend from earlier in the week. I think Thanksgiving week is traditionally kind of busy. I have never been in August, but I think would avoid Thanksgiving if I were you.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Visited During Thanksgiving Week?

We were there this past Thanksgiving on "Black Friday" and were surprised how LOW the crowds were. We went ready to battle "day after Thanksgiving crowds" and actually were hard pressed all day to find an attraction with more than a 20 minute wait. The ONLY large crowd we encountered was when we swung over to MGM about 6pm that day to see the Osbourne Christmas display, it was a Friday though, and I don't ever remember NOT being surrounded by a crowd at Osbourne.

We had been taking our 7-10 day trip in August for the past 4 years also and this will be the first time we are doing our week in November for Thanksgiving, so I will be right there to find out with you! hehe.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Visited During Thanksgiving Week?

We have been at Thanksgiving...

There was ONE and ONE DAY ONLY that was bad... Thanksgiving Day itself, and only in the far back corner of the MK in Frontierland. Between SM and BTMRR, it was so packed that we felt like sardines! No problem though, if this happens to you... just hop on the WDW Railroad and choo choo around to another part of the park. The rest was pretty empty! The other parks were fairly light, as well, even on Thanksgiving Day and over the weekend!

You shouldhave no problems. We have seen it much busier, and still ahd the greatest vacations ever!

Re: Has Anyone Ever Visited During Thanksgiving Week?

Thank you so much for this information. You have really given me something to consider. I'm going to assume that the weather was considerably less hot than August

I agree with you. We were there the week before Thanksgiving and it was quiet. Then, Sunday before the holiday was unbearably crowded at MK. Epcot and MGM were empty. We left Monday or Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Visited During Thanksgiving Week?

We go every year at Thanksgiving and have a blast!! All the decorations come out and everything has a holiday theme. Saturday through Wednesday before Thanksgiving are good. Crowds pick up And stay heavy through Saturday and by Sunday after Thanksgiving all gone.

I booked already, The days before are calm, T-Giving itself is fine (locals stay home) and the weather is just right for this Jersey Boy.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Visited During Thanksgiving Week?

Where is everyone staying this year at Thanksgiving? Right now were booked at Saratoga springs, but at the 7 month window I want to switch over to Wilderness Lodge Villas or wherever has room.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Visited During Thanksgiving Week?

We are booked for CBR at Thanksgiving but if I get a good raise and bonus I'd like to change to the Contemporary.
Sounds to me like we should have a Mousebuzz get together at Turkey time!!
Waht do you think?

We went last year 11/26-12/4/ and the crowds were very low. The airlines were awful!

Re: Has Anyone Ever Visited During Thanksgiving Week?

Our first trip we were there over Thanksgiving week.
From what I can remember, it wasn't bad, I know that on Thanksgiving Day we decided to play at the CB during the day and then we had ADR at LTT - I saw the sign that said MK closed, I was in a panic, but when we got there, there were hordes of people leaving it was about 3-4pm by that time.
We didn't have much of a wait on any of the rides in fantasy land.

And I do remember we got a great spot for "Wishes" too.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Visited During Thanksgiving Week?

We are booked at the BCV - arriving Sun 11/18 and departing Sat. 24th. We've also added on two nights at the Nick Hotel for 11/16 & 11/17.

We've done Spring Break in April and survived. It was very busy, but certainly doable. We took advantage of the AM Extra Magic Hours, especially at MK. We are hoping that Thanksgiving is no worse than Spring Break.

Our philosophy has been that:

#1 It is WDW. Better than work or school.
#2 It isn't the first time and won't be the last. We don't have to do everything.
#3 It is vacation - not a marathon or endurance race.
