What time of the year is better?

My wife and myself are DVC members and are thinking of taking her family to Walt Disney World. Which time of the year is better, late October or early December (first week)? Does anyone know if they will be having the Osbourne Family Lights this year, has anything changed this year for the Christmas celebration? I appreciate any feedback and look forward to hearing from you soon!! Thank you!
:)

Hey Thomas, Welcome to DisneyCentral! You'll find this site very informative when making plans to WDW. I think the first week in December would be the best time to go. There is very low attendance, and you get to see all the great christmas decorations! As far as I know The Osbourne Lights are still scheduled to go on this winter at MGM. Late October would also be nice, but you would be looking at heavier crowds since it's Halloween. Unless Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is something you want to see, I would go with early December, its just great around that time! Have fun planning!
Joe:)

I second what Joe said, except that if water parks are big on your list sometimes the weather is a little cool for that in December. If you can do without them though, I'd definitely go for the December week.

Ditto what Joe said. Early Dec. would not only be beautiful, but it is also value season. Means, low crowds and low prices. But the holiday lights are beautiful too!!!

I had my first trip to Disney this year in January. January 15th to the 22nd was a pretty good week. The crowds were small, which is a definite bonus, and the lines were very short. The most my boyfriend and I waited on line for a ride was about 10 - 15 minutes, sometimes even less than 5 minutes. The weather was a bit chilly, but that was Canada's fault for sending Disney World their cold front. Oh well. Other than that, that time in January is really good. That's my opinion.

I'll put in a 'vote' for Early December. I've been to WDW 19 times (next time is in just 2 days on Business, then back again a week later for a 13 day family vacation :D ).
First week in December is my favorite time to go (got reservations for later this year. :)

May is my second favorite time because the weather is (usually) good and the crowds not yet up to full summer levels. But, I don't think you can beat the feeling of Disney all decorated for Christmas. The Candlelight musical at EPCOT is a must see.

Welcome aboard!

Another vote for the first week in December. The crowds are smaller, the weather is better. You'll be able to see the Osborne Family Lights in December, too. They're officially turned on after Thanksgiving.

Early May visits to WDW are usually very nice, but summer has come early to Orlando this year. It's been in the mid-90s with high humidity the last six days in a row. Pretty brutal outside for those unaccustomed to Florida summers. It's supposed to be cooler today, though, so I'll probably head out to the parks later and see what it's like.

We always go in May, but I have to put in a vote for December. I have heard that all the Christmas lights/decorations are just awesome and it is my goal in the next 2 years to be there at some point in December.

From mid-November through December - you can't beat Disney World for putting you in the holiday spirit. :D
