AP Questions

Okay so due to the fact that we are seriously considering a trip in Jan/Feb of 2008 we were thinking of getting an AP. So my questions are these:

1) Can we upgrade to an AP when we check-in in May? We currently have a MYW with DP package.

2) Would we get our AP right then if we did upgrade or would it have to mailed? Could we immediately go to DTD and activate it?

3) Can you get the dining plan with an AP reservation? If we do go in Jan/Feb we would like the DP but could we get it with an AP?

4) Would an AP be worth it? We are staying 9 nights in May and probably 4-4 nights in Jan/Feb.

Thanks!! We are just weighing our options.

Re: AP Questions

You can upgrade to an AP whenever, you will be credited your purchase price towards your AP, and your AP will become valid then. I don't think you can do it at your resort, I think you have to go to Guest Relations to do it.

I am thinking you can not get the dining plan with an AP, you must have a package in order to have the dining plan, but I am not 100% sure.

Re: AP Questions

The DP is not available with the AP. That being said, there is the Disney Dining Card for AP holders which gives you 20% off all sit down dining.

Re: AP Questions

Does the 20% off cover ALL sit down meals? Including character meals?

I think if you go to Disney's website, there will be a list of all the restaurants that were covered. I know we were even able to use it at the food courts at AKL and WL, if I am not mistaken. I also do not remember a restaurant that did not take the card. But, the DTD restaurants might be an exception to this. I know DisneyTeacher also had the card, she might have better info.

Re: AP Questions

You can only buy AP's at the 4 parks at guest relations. The dining card has a list of restaurants where it can be used. You can find this list on the Disney website. We've had it for 2 years and it has paid for itself many times over.

Re: AP Questions

Here is the allears link for the DDE willbegone! It looks to be a great deal as you can use it for up to 10 people. There is a list of places it is accecpted here on this page although I'm not sure how complete the list is here.

Re: AP Questions

Information about the Disney Dining Experience can be found at 407-566-5858 and Walt Disney World Resort - Passholders. It's most of the restaurants on property, some of the Operating Participants may not participate, not sure off the top of my head.

Upgrading tickets that are attached to a room key and DDP is pretty tricky, it might have to be done after you check out of your room.

I had a thread almost exactly the same as this one in the "budget threads". I just wanted to thank you all for the info.
Regarding the upgrading to an AP, I called Disney twice & both times I was told that I could upgrade at a park entrance to an AP. When I asked if my meal plan would be cancelled on my "key to the world card" when I upgraded, I was told that it would not. Meaning that it would be fine, and I would still have my meals on my card to use up for the stay. so if I understand correctly, all you need to do, is book a MYW package with meal& park tickets, then after you check in, and your meals & everything are all on the "key card", you need to upgrade the park passes. I am still a little worried about doing this as I wonder if this upgrade process will cancel the meals which would be on the "card". Now I know I was told that it would be fine, but still I would like to here from a few people who have done this successfully.
Are we all confused enough yet?!

Re: AP Questions

Also, you can get the dining plan when you book as little as a one day ticket. You can use that unused ticket anytime as a credit towards a ticket upgrade. You can not get AP rates when you book any MYW package, so do math to see if the dining plan works better for you than AP rates and paying meals out of pocket using the DDE card (which I'm almost sure is not good at any counter service location, only select sit down locations)(I'm a 2 year member).

Re: AP Questions

I tried to find info on the DDE card on the disney website & could not. I was not able to access anything without an AP number. I would like to see the info, so, if anyone has the link, could they post it?

The AP card and the key card can be totally seperate. Tell them at check in that you would like a seperate card for park admission...easy enough. I had my park passes and room key with the my DDP credits on seperate cards when I was there in october.

Re: AP Questions

Dana, THANK YOU!!
I was looking for exactly that info. My DBF will be very pleased that we can do what we wanted; which was to pay full price for the rooms & get the dining plan, but also upgrade to AP's. We really only wanted to save on the meals, not to try & get 2 discounts (for example AP room discounts).

This is what we are planning to do. (upgrade to AP's once we get there.)

Also, I know you can use the DDE at the counter service restaurants at AK.
