Crowds at the beginning of January?

So we are looking at another trip January 1-5. What are the crowds like during this time? We expect Jan.1 to be crowded but what about after that?

Crowds are generally pretty mild in Jan. but the first part of your trip may be quite busy with the New Year's crowd still around.

Check about the marathon dates. I have heard that it is crowded then... how crowded, I do not know, but still crowded... Have a great trip!

The couple of days around New Year's will be busy - but after say, the 3rd, you should have really low crowds. We always use to go at that time and could virtually walk onto everything. We've been there at the marathon time and it's busier, but still not "summer or spring break" busy. The weather can be such a mixed bag in January - make sure you take everything from a good, warm jacket to shorts.

Although I've never been in January, I've read many of times on here that the Cheerleaders are there in January. And, their group seems to be a bit overwhelming for some of the MBers.

we were there jan.7-12 of last year and going 14-18th this year. the crowds were LOW.

but i planned it so that we were there after the marathon. i understand that it is indeed more crowded the days before the marathon than the days foloowing. that said, we walked on most every ride, sometimes beign allowed to stay on for another go!!

weather was great, a bit cool at night.

you will have a blast!!

FYI
My neighbors went the first week of January, they left Jan 1st and came back 10 days later. They said the first 7 days were very crowded, but the last couple of days it was fine.

Compared with Dec 31, Jan 1 is empty! The crowds start to flow away on New Year's Day and it's probably very managable by Jan 2 depending on when kids have to get back to school.

Sounds good. DD is supposed to start school back on Jan.3 but we are keeping her out those 2 days. My birthday is Jan. 4 and DS will turn 1 on Jan. 12 so this is going to be a birthday trip for both of us. We are surprising the kids with it.

To the best of my knowledge, I thought that the crowds die around the 2nd with everyone heading home from their christmas vacations. I think that the third week is the best january week, but any time in january should be just fine.

Where can one find info about the marathons and cheerleaders? I checked special events on Disney.com with no luck...We'll be there the 9-12th. Can't change the dates now but would be good to know ahead of time!

the marathon is listed under special events....will try to find the link to the info. and come back and update this post with it.

i know the dates are jan. 11-13.

the cheerleaders....well, it's ESPN week..and honestly that really isn't a factor in jan. IMHO

the 2 main thigns to look at are MKL holiday weekend,(18-21) and the marathon.

but even with both of those mixed in...jan. is still not as crowded as it is during summer, or spring.

We booked our trip from 1/12/08 - 1/21/08. In 2008 MLK falls on the 21st which seems a bit late but the 1st is on a Tuesday so the 3rd Monday is the 21st.
