Opinions needed please
So for those experienced Disney goers -what ride would you start with in each park for a 6 year old is not sure if he wants to fo the "bigger" rides? DS says he is going to try this and that, but not too sure.

Re: Opinions needed please
yep, goofy's - then when he see how easy it is, go for splash mountain, then Big thunder mountain. That's our plan with DD's (3 & 6) - both say they want to ride the bigger rides, but we'll start them off with goofy's 1st!

Re: Opinions needed please
I have to agree...Goofy's is a very small, tame roller coaster. If DS does good with that one and wants to go on bigger ones, then on to Splash and Space Mountains you go! Then ToT! Then Soarin! My 5 year old DS goes on EVERYTHING except RnRC! He's still not tall enough yet.

Re: Opinions needed please
Ok-I think we'll start with Goofy
! He actually rode this last time we were there-he was a few months shy of being 4-wasn't too crazy about it. But, you know, the difference between 3 1/2 and 6 is well.......he thinks he's so big now and all! So Splash would be a good second one? How bad is big thunder? Pretty scary? That's one I have never rode before.

Re: Opinions needed please
Just about everybody likes Big Thunder Mountain. There's no cork screws or loop-de-loop kind of things that wig me out. And Splash is a blast, but if I were you I'd wait until later in the day to ride - kind of close to when you're going to leave the park - because walking around in wet clothes is not fun. But, if you're still concerned about how he's going to handle Splash and Big Thunder, walk over with him and watch a few times and he'll decide. He is after all only 6. My son the he-man wouldn't ride ANYthing except Spaceship Earth for the longest time. Last year at the ripe old age of 13 he decides (through forceful sisterly persuasion) to hit the coasters and he LOVED them.

Re: Opinions needed please
Start with Barnstormer, and see how well he likes it this time. If he likes it better than he did before, upgrade to Big Thunder. Big Thunder seems terrifying to a lot of kids from the outside, but I've met very few who came off of that ride with anything but a big smile! It's a very smooth, very tame roller coaster overall...and LOTS of fun!

Re: Opinions needed please
Thanks everybody! He is excited about being "big" enough to go on those types of rides. My oldest DS was 6 the first time he went and loved all those rides. His favorite was Space Mountain and rode it so many times-so he is excited because he is even bigger and can ride anything now! So I think my 6 yo is going to try to keep up with his older brother!

Re: Opinions needed please
MGM - Star Tours if he loves Star Wars. Otherwise, TGMR
MK - Barnstormer or Dumbo/Aladdin EC - Spaceship Earth or Maelstrom AK - Kilmanjaro Safaris

My son was about that age when we went last time and he loved the barnstormer--I think he went on it about 5 times!

Re: Opinions needed please
After riding all of them, I would say barnstormer, then the RR, then space mountain, then splash mountain. Splash mountain has quite a big drop. Space mountain is just dark, but not too big of a drop.
And then when he is good and ready...Expedition Everest!!! Woohoo...that was awesome! |

Re: Opinions needed please
It took a few trips before I could convince my brother to go near Splash Mountain, he adored Big Thunder but as soon as we walked over to Splash and he saw the drop he walked the other way! Its all about just letting them decide for themselves I suppose and if they change their mind in the queue its easy to get out!
Space Mountain is a blast, but sometimes the fact thats its in complete darkness can put some little kids off so make sure they know this! Im sure he'l have a blast no matter what he does or doesnt go on! |

Re: Opinions needed please
Personally, I would just work him up the bigger attractions slowly. If he is wanting to try the big guy rides, then let him. Act like it's not a big deal and then go for it.
