The best rides/attractions to wait for

Hey all! Thank you for all the restaurant help - now I need some advice on rides...

I don't really know how this FastPass thing works: I mean, if everyone uses it, wouldn't everyone end up in the FastPass line? I am confunded.

Also, which ride in each park have I absolutely GOT to see? I know Space Mountain and Everest and Pirates and Tower of Terror... but are there any rides that don't get their due or ones that people maybe pass by on their way to the bigger ones??? You know what I mean.

I will have a 5, 8, and 9 year old with me - so I can't do the big ones - she isn't tall enough (yet)...

Thanks for all the great advice! June - here we come!

the great thing about FastPass is the fact that many people "don't trust" it and they also don't know how it works. Meaning, fairly few people use it. You'll walk onto Splash Mountain with no wait and there's a standby line that's 80 minutes long, because people think it costs money to use the system FastPass is the best thing since sliced bread. All you do is insert your parkpass/resort key for the ride you want, and it spits out an "appointment" for your ride. This gives you the freedom to see and do other things. Don't be afraid. You'll love it.

I think the rides that you listed are all "must do's" for people. You'll be well adviced to either go early in the day or/and get that FastPass

Re: The best rides/attractions to wait for

we were confused by fast pass at first too. biggest lesson, you can only hold one fast pass at a time. so, you can't get another one until the window on your first one starts. so, its smart to get a fast pass for say splash mtn, then when it is time to go to use the fast pass, get another one for another ride, or again for splash if you want to ride it again. that way, you are closer to the 2nd time frame when you get off the 1st ride. did that make sense? i confuse myself sometimes!

we like all the fantasyland rides (except snow white)! and DH loves the country bears - lol! Soarin at Epcot, of course! we liked the ride at mexico in epcot (haven't seen it since the rehab tho).

Chuck, we saw that exact thing happen in February at Expedition Everest! The fast pass lines were enormous! There was a gigantic line for each of the machines, and we joked that they needed to fast pass the fast pass lines! But usually, it is not a big deal. Just be aware that for a lot of the really popular rides, especially Soarin' and Rockn Roller Coaster, the fast passes are all gone soon after the machines open!

Here is a list of the additional rides I would take kids those ages on:

MK -- Goofy's Barnstormer, Splash Mountain, Peter Pan's Flight, Jungle Cruise, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and don't under any circumstances miss Mickey's Philharmagic!!!

MGM -- Star Tours, Muppetvision and Lights!Motor!Action!

AK -- Kilmanjaro Safari (and Dinosaur, if your kids are not scared of dinos!)

EC -- Maelstrom, Test Track, Journey Into the Imagination and don't under any circumstances miss the Seas With Nemo, even if the line seems long. It moves fast!

Re: The best rides/attractions to wait for

must sees for me and my DD in each park. We do them as soon as the rope drops and have them all in by lunch time. Anything we get to do after that is gravy. I only use fast passes for rides I want to come back and ride later on in the day and know there will be a major line.
(I do them in this order too)
MK - Pooh, peter pan, philharmagic, space, buzz, splash, pirates, jungle cruise and then small world cause I have to for my DD

MGM - RnR, TOT, RnR, TOT, RnR, TOT and then we do the great movie ride, muppets 3d and we also get on star tours.....

Epcot - soarin, TT, MS, Soarin with a FP.....done..lol Then we hit the countries for the rest of the time to shop.

AK - Expedition everest, EE again...once more, safari, jungle trails, it's tough to be a bug, back to EE and then we leave.

Re: The best rides/attractions to wait for

Hey Chuck!!

Welcome to MouseBuzz!

There are also some shows that the kids will really like. At MK, the show at Cinderella's Castle (Mickey's Dream Adventure or something like that) is a really fun show. Also, in TomorrowLand, the new Monsters, Inc. Comedy show is very cute and the characters interact with the kids.

At Epcot, definately check out The Seas with Nemo and Friends...the whole pavilion has a new facelift and it's very kid-friendly: Turtle Talk with Crush, the Nemo ride and the aquarium are great!

At MGM, both Beauty and the Beast and Voyage of the Little Mermaid are very cool and, for the youngest kids, Playhouse Disney! is there which gets good reviews (haven't seen it yet).

At AK, Flights of Wonder, Pocohantas and Her Forest Friends, Finding Nemo - The Musical are must sees.

These aren't attractions that necessarily get overlooked but, since the kids can't ride some of the bigger rides yet, these are cool things to do that you can all enjoy. Have a great trip!!

Once you use it, it will be understandable. My first choices are always Soarin' and RRC.

Re: The best rides/attractions to wait for

Fastpass is the best thing since sliced bread ! Once you start using it you will never wait in line again (unless you have too )

In MK we cannot miss Mickey's Philharmagic, Splash Mountain, The Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, Pirates . I have two children, DD6 and DS13 and they both love roller coasters (I got them started young!!)

In Epcot we love Test Track, Soarin' and we can't wait to check out the new Nemo and Friends ride.

In MGM we love RRC, Star Tours and with a young one we cannot miss Playhouse Disney. Tower of Terror is not a big hit in my family .

In AK we absolutely cannot wait to experience EE .

Try to experience all of the rides at least once and then you know where YOU want to go again. Have a great time!!

Re: The best rides/attractions to wait for

You absolutely cannot miss Soarin' !!! It is a must do ride and definately get a fast pass. The stand-by wait times are always so long.

Just make sure you go get the fast pass for the ride you want to do right way when you get to the park. For us it was:

MK: Space Mountain
Epcot: Soarin
AK: Expedition Everest
MGM: Tower of Terror

DH would go ahead of us and get the fast pass and then he would meet us at a different area of the park. The fast pass time would always be at least 2 hours away, so we would do other attractions while waiting for our fast pass time to come up.

Also, be careful if you try to get fast passes later in the day - they could be all gone for that day.

Re: The best rides/attractions to wait for

fast passes are truly invaluable. They really do save time and once you have used it you will never look back. The only rides we experienced a wait to even get a FP on was Soarin and EE so get to those as early as poss. they really are a god send. what we tend to do is check out the lines for say two of the things we really want to do above all else, get a FP for the one with the longest wait and go wait in line for the other ride with the shortest wait. EG. Got a FP for Space mountain, waited in line for pooh bear 15 mins......when we finished with Pooh we headed to Space Mountain and was on the ride within 3 mins!

Re: The best rides/attractions to wait for

Oh and it was weird - we got a fast pass for Jungle Cruise and when we returned for our time we waited for 40 minutes in a super long line. So fast pass doesn't always mean you walk right on.

Re: The best rides/attractions to wait for

Yes, perhaps FASTPASS will make sense once I am there - right now it seems a little strange. BUT there is a similar thing at six flags - I forget the trademarked name - but it operates on the same principal - except it is VERY expensive (that way not everybody uses it)

ick

I love all these suggestions! I am so ready to go.........

Re: The best rides/attractions to wait for

chuck, you will love fast pass, and it is free. just make it a point to have a pass whenever possible to the rides you really want on. you will see what 's going on as soon as you get there, and you'll get used to it fast.

Re: The best rides/attractions to wait for

I agree with everyone, fastpast is just great! Just remember to get them early if you really want to get them. Sometimes the daily quota can be used up very quickly. A friend of mine just got back from her trip, & they waited too late to get them for EE, then the regular lines were so long that they ended having to miss out on that all-together.
