POTC bonus if you have a Ninetendo DS

Disney parks providing extra loot for "Pirates" game

By John GaudiosiMon May 21, 2:17 AM ET

Disney Interactive Studios is letting amusement park customers pillage a little extra content for its latest "Pirates of the Caribbean" game.

The division showcased its first collaboration with Disney Parks and Resorts at Disneyland on Saturday, hours before the world premiere of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" took place in the amusement park.

Beginning on Friday at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World in Orlando, consumers who bring their Nintendo DS and "At World's End" game to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride will be able to seek out 10 secured wireless hot spots to download free exclusive game content that won't be available anywhere else. The gaming stations will be marked with a Pirates "X" at different areas through Labor Day at both parks.

The new Nintendo DS game -- which will also be sold at both Disney parks, along with other versions of the "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" games -- follows the exploits of the third movie and features such characters as Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann. There will be three different downloads available around the theme park ride, including one that gamers can access while standing in line for the Pirates ride that inspired the films and games. Players will be able to unlock bonus items such as unlimited health, new costumes for the three stars of the game and new weapons, characters and locations for the online dueling mode of the title.

A new area of Disneyland's Frontierland opens Friday called Pirates Lair, which previously was Tom Sawyer Island. The new attraction has been designed by Disney Imagineers to incorporate a pirate's life into a live-action show that was choreographed by Tony Angelotti, a stunt man in the three films. Disney Interactive Studios, which provided the software and download stations for the Nintendo DS hot spots, worked with the Imagineers to hide X's throughout this new area for gamers to find, as well as in other sections around the original ride.

Disney Interactive Studios had Xbox 360, Wii and Nintendo DS kiosks of "At World's End" set up for the world premiere of the third "Pirates" film for the roughly 2,500 guests to play before and after the film was shown in a closed-off section of Disneyland. The Xbox 360 and Wii game also were on display at the press reception area throughout the day. All attendees of the world premiere received a limited-edition "At World's End" Nintendo DS portable game player and Nintendo DS game as part of the gift bags handed out after the event.

Disney Interactive Studios shipped seven versions of the new "Pirates" games across every current gaming platform. The new game incorporates action from both "Dead Man's Chest" and "At World's End" and expands the story beyond those films with new characters, plot twists and locations.

Guess I'm going to have to buy DS this game before our trip in July.

My DS has "misplaced" his NintendoDS This may give him a reason to look a little harder for it!

DS's DS was missing for almost a month. He swore I took it from him and I lost it. We just found it the other day in the kitchen on top of my pantry, he had stuck it up there on the way out of the garage and totally forgot he did it.

Boy, was he totally embarrassed after accusing me of taking it. I actually got an " I'm sorry, Mom".

Wherever I read the story first, it did give a time frame. I'll try to find it.

Re: POTC bonus if you have a Ninetendo DS

From allearsnet:

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts are partnering with Disney Interactive Studios to release exclusive content for the upcoming Nintendo DS video game Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Wireless capabilities are in beta testing at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort that will allow Disney park guests who bring their Nintendo DS and a copy of the video game with them during their visit to download new content at specific "X-marks-the-spot" hotspots hidden near the Pirates of the Caribbean attractions. This download unlocks new content such as unlimited health and "savvy" as well as fun extras, including additional costumes. This special content is only available to Disney park visitors and can be accessed with a Nintendo DS. The Nintendo DS Download Program for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is available free to any park guest carrying a Nintendo DS system that contains a copy of the video game. For Nintendo DS owners without a copy of the new video game, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End will be available for purchase in stores at both parks. The program will begin on May 22 and is scheduled to run through Labor Day.

Has anyone done this yet? Do you think the Pirates DS games would be too hard for 8yo son? When games get too deep in storyline and complicated, he gets a little frustated. Your opinions are appreciated.

Re: POTC bonus if you have a Ninetendo DS

I told my boys about this and they are soooo excited!! They are curently "working" to get a DS each before we go on our trip! They want them so bad! The only reason I am upgrading their systems from gameboys to the DS is because they can play their gameboy advance games with the DS system.

My oldest is almost 8 1/2 and he understands them fine! As long as he can read pretty well, then I think he will be okay!

We found it (after Disney, of course) it was folded up in the fold-away couch bed!!
