Goofette- Your very sweet. No it was my other sister( I have 4) who won the trip. I'm sorry if I sounded like I was bashing Disney but I was upset & trying to make sense of a horrible situation.

The woman teaches at a school in Levittown, NY. I haven't seen any newspaper accounts but the school posted a flyer.

My heart and prayers go out to that poor family. This brings back an awful memory--- my cousin's best friend, they were both five years old at the time, died from choking on a MARSHMALLOW. KEEP THESE AWAY from your children also! As summer approaches, and s'mores are tempting, PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND. I will pray for the little ones tonight.

It just goes to show that disney central is a real community, not just any other discussion board. The members here are all so very supportive. Although many of us knew the dangers of hotdogs for little ones, disneyanne didn't. I had no idea that marshmallows were a choking hazard, I give them to my almost 5 and 7 yr olds all the time. Not anymore. This was such a tragedy, but I'm thankful that Twinglemom posted this story because at least two of us learned some very valuable information. I understand that you are very upset Twinglemom and I didn't think you were trying to bash disney. What you did was share some information that could prevent this tragedy in other families, as did ajbdk5. Thankyou.

Has anyone been able to find out anything more about this?

I've read through every Disney related story in the Sentinel since 4/1 and also the online Levittown Tribune, and there doesn't seem to be anything.

What a tragedy...

Although I feel very sorry for the family and the child, I don't know how Disney can be held accountable. I have been there and seen how they handle emergencies, and if there was ANYTHING that could have been done for the child, it would have. Not only that, the ambulance would not have gone through a crowd to get to the child. The emergency security team would have gotten the child backstage and the EMTs would have met him there.

Unfortunately, when something of this magnitude happens and you happen to be in the middle of it, time stands still, and the response that may have taken 3 minutes will feel more like 3 hours, especially if you happen to feel a bit guilty that it happened in the first place.

With a choking child, it only takes 4-6 minutes for irreparable brain injury and death to occur. Since the poster stated that the Heimlich was applied, there was little else for anyone to do. Disney medical personnel are not to perform invasive procedures.

I hope that the family can find peace and acceptance.

I searched for hours and nothing, put it in every way I could think of.

Floridabound your right .. disney cant be held responsible, in something like this there is no blame ...not even a parent can always know whats right or wrong..because we do our best and still it cant always be good enough I am like you I have wittnessed Disney in action when there is an emergency, I believe that when it comes to the saftey and well being of any guest on WDW property they are as prepared as any where. What I am shocked at is the fact that this was posted in some kind of flyer by the school, but I guess different things in different states.
but when ever a child is lost, it effects every parent and grandparent.

Bruce, I've also searched in Everything trying to find it. So far I've found absolutely nothing. I did find a few deaths at Disney, but nothing about a 3 yo boy choking. I also searched the Orlando paper, and several New York papers. That's why I was wanting someone to link me if they found it. If any of you do find it, I would still be curious to read about it.

Angie, about the hot dogs, I think it's just for the little ones. I believe the older kids are fine to have hot dogs. I even gave them to my daughter when she was one. I just cut them in half then into bite size pieces. They even package little bite size hotdogs (the size of vienna sausages) for toddlers, I guess the hot dog is just the size of a windpipe. But I wouldn't worry about it for older kids. Of course kids can choke on anything, (I choked on my dr. pepper earlier :dazed ), but again, I think the warnings of hotdogs are really just meant for babies and toddlers, just like they aren't suppose to have balloons because kids have choked on balloons when they've bitten them, and something about the balloon when it pops can choke them. Of course I could be wrong. I'm sure their is something online about it if you want to check to be sure. That's what I would do. I always like to read things for myself (yes I'm from the Show-Me State;) )

This is terrible news. I live in Long Island (not far from Levittown) and there was absolutely nothing in the news about this. Long Island's big paper is NEWSDAY...if you want to check it out. I may have missed it, but I know I didn't hear about it until this thread. My heart goes out to that family...

I just read in a newspaper about an 11 year old girl who died at a Six Flags (Gurnee, IL) choking on gum after riding a rollercoaster. Goes to show that this kind of thing can happen at any time at any place. It is just so sad to see a young person with so much of life yet to live die.

The story hasn't been in the papers. The family isn't looking for press or lawsuits they're trying to just survive. The school the woman teaches at is Abby Lane in Levittown. People on another BB also knew the story (their kid attends the school) and posted the school name to verify the story. I didn't post it because I didn't want to exploit or cause this family anymore pain than they are already in. I'm glad people like Angie got the real intent of my post - to protect little ones from choking hazards. We all get rushed & lax and in our busy lives might forget a few safety issues and unfortunately sometimes it takes a tragedy to remind us. So maybe this little angel saved count less children around the world. I'd like to this there is a silver lining here somewhere. And I don't really blame Disney I was hurting for another Mom. As I post this I'm watching my own 3 yr old DS sleep and sending a thankful prayer. I think Disney being a big corp was an easy scapegoat though if Disney has poor response times during crowded times I thought it was something people should know. But I have since heard from many people about their wonderful experiences with Disney in an emergency. So the big lesson?? Perhaps as simple as Life is fragile - love, protect & appreciate your children & loved ones. Don't part in anger. You can never say I love you enough. Be kind to others and don't jump to the worst possible conclusions. God Bless. :heart

I have read on another board that the iaccident with the child and the hotdog actually happened at Universal, and not WDW. I believe that the vacation encompassed many of the Orlando parks, not just WDW... so it is very feasible and may be why none of the castmembers at WDW have heard anything about it.

According to this source, this isn't an urban legend (unfortunately for the family and child), as a close personal friend of this person babysat for the surviving child during the funeral.

What a shame that something like that would happen during a vacation, no matter where they were on vacation.

TwingleMom, I get it too. Your last post was a beautiful reminder of what the heart of this thread was, and where your heart was/is. God bless you,
