Three Yr Old Boy Dies Wdw !!!

I am crying my eyes out writing this. My sister is a 1st grade teacher and a teacher in her school went to WDW at Easter w/her 5yr old DD & 3 yr old DS. The 3 y old choked on a hot dog and DIED. The hiemlich , nothing worked. The crowds were so bad the ambulance couldn't get through in time. I am sooo angry why did't Disney security clear a path a head of time, where were the nurses or EMTs? Or didn't Disney want to disturb the illusion nothing bad happens at Disney. I know from my EMT training that a hot dog is just the right size to lodge in a little throat(think garden hose). I only recently let my son have hot dogs & then only after I split it in half & skinned it. But the ER doctor told the woman that a hot dogs skin can expand in a throat & make it difficult to dislodge. This poor woman is in her 1st trimester of a pregnancy also. She won't eat or drink. She fainted at the wake and had to be carried out of the funeral. So when you tuck your little one in tonight count your blessings and say a prayer for this poor woman. I can't imagine what Mothers Day will be like for her. Remember don't count on Disney in a crisis and NO HOT DOGS FOR LITTLE ONES !!!!

That is very sad news. I can't imagine how hard something like that would be to bear. I will definitely pray for that family and I will pray that God comforts that family during their time of great loss.

I hope this incident creates an awareness for WDW on how to better deal with circumstances like this.

Thanks for sharing this news with us.

I can't even imagine the heartache. That poor family, my worst nightmare... I don't even have words, anytime a child dies, nothing could be worse, nothing. I will remember them in my prayers.

TwingleMom, you are correct about the dangers of hot dogs, I was an EMT and CPR instructor and can feel for such a desperate situation. I pray for the mother and her baby to get through this.

About 1 month ago, my 5 year old was watching TV quietly, sipping water from these little tea cups of hers. Next thing I know , she is complaining that she wants more water for scratchy throat because she accidentally swallowed one of those polished glass ornamental disks you put in vases. I was freaking out!! Good thing she didn't choke on it, being the diameter of a dime and about 1/4 inch thick. To the hospital we went. She had an X-Ray of her stomach and the ER Doctor said it would pass. It did...3 days later. You can never be too careful, no matter where you are.:angel

That is Horrible! It is a bad idea to give hot dogs to little ones. I always cut them up until she was older.

I've been looking all over the papers trying to find something about it, but there is nothing. I was curious as to what Disney was saying. Do you know the town they live in? I'm sure there would be a write up in that paper.

If anyone finds it can you please link me. Thanks

I would bet that the Orlando paper, the Orlando Sentinel, would have an article about this tragedy. I don't remember their web address, though, sorry.

The Orlando paper is what I was searching under. I wonder what I should type in? I used several things.

:cry:I am holding back the tears...barely. My 14-month-old baby girl just finished a corndog. I never knew they could be such a hazard. Hot dogs are out of my house!

My heart truly goes out to the family and those that knew them. I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh my goodness, I just remembered....wasn't it your sister TwingleMom who won the trip to Disney? You know when she goes she'll be thinking about this incident  That's very sad. Were you going to be going with your sister also? I recall the dates were set for the end of May. Let us know how your sister is doing and how the family of the child is holding up. I noticed you said your sister was from Long Island, is this the same one who worked with the teacher who's child died?
