Waterproof bag for Camera, ID, etc

i know there was a thread on this a while ago, but i couldn't locate it.

Sandy has always been a "Fanny Pack" person, but i'm more into a over the shoulder type bag wearer. I want to find something this year that has waterproof compartments for our camera, spots for ID, pockets for pills and other medicine.

....basically an everything bag, that's not too bulky but can carry all the necessities. If anyone has any links to any online shops that might carry such a bag, i'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Re: Waterproof bag for Camera, ID, etc

What about just a regular backpack and putting all the "essentials" that you don't want wet in ziplock bags. That's what we usually do. Especially now with so many regular backpacks out on the market for back to school.

Re: Waterproof bag for Camera, ID, etc

hmm... i'm ok with the zip lock bags when i'm packing, soaps, shampoo & things like that. But i was looking for something with a little faster access. The bags are a great idea, and i might default down to that if nothing comes of the larger bag idea.

There was a link to Bags - Free shipping, Free return shipping - luggage, handbags, backpacks, briefcases, but I don't know if you will find that kind of a bag there. Have you checked on Amazon? I usually put my stuff in a ziploc inside my backpack.

Re: Waterproof bag for Camera, ID, etc

I picked up a basic backpack from Wal-Mart that I think was waterproof. Either way everything inside stayed bone dry even after Kali Rapids.

Re: Waterproof bag for Camera, ID, etc

This is the bag I purchased Eastsport - Basic Backpack with Organizer and Cellphone Case - Wal-Mart

It doesn't say anything about being waterproof in the desription though. Hope this helps.

If you want to direct a film clip while shooting the rapids, you can take an ordinary ziplock bag, cut a hole into it for the lens, leaving the rest of the camera protected from getting wet...

Unless you just want something that will just keep everything dry, no closeups for posterity, a ziplock bag gallon size will work without the expense..

faster access?

Even by using some type of water retardant on the backpack or fanny pack, nothing will be waterproof.

When I backpacked, ziplock was the best.

Perhaps you might consider tupperware? That provides waterproofing and protection from pressure. If you don't mind the weight..

Re: Waterproof bag for Camera, ID, etc

Here is a great bag. It is made by Lowepro and is geared more towards pro users. It is also very pricey, i think this one is around two hundred. Your best bet may be to get a waterproof bag and use it in aregular backpack. Thats what I do when I kayak. I will try to find some links, I have one bag that holds my cell, camera, wallet, and car keys then I shove that in my bag.

Lowepro - Waterproof

and here is a review of the bag:

Re: Waterproof bag for Camera, ID, etc

For my next trip Im going to get the waterproof case for my Canon SD850is so I can bring it to the water park. It also helps protect from drops and stuff.

Tupperware is a good idea, i never thought of that.

Here are some more places you can check out:

These guys make some great products, sealinegear. They have waterproof bags in all sizes and uses. I like the little pouches, that way you can use one for a cell and keys, wallet, etc and one for the camera that you can clip on to your pack for easy access.

SealLine Water Sport Dry Bags - Home

This next link is to site im not familiar with, looks pricey:

AQUAPAC - 100% Waterproof Cases for MP3, Camera, Phone, VHF, GPS and more

Re: Waterproof bag for Camera, ID, etc

Wow.. thanks guys and gals! That's a lot of great ideas.

I called the Mrs. at work and told her what i was thinking of and guess what she said?

"I'll just pack some zip lock bags".

Talk about a major bummer.

Re: Waterproof bag for Camera, ID, etc

Two quick things to remember about bags-
1) Get something that security can go thru quickly. You don't want to spend 10 minutes at the security table so they can search thru every compartment and zippered area.
2) Lots of back packs have a suede reinforcement area on the bottom of the backpack. If you get this wet-it will stain your clothes, if it rubs on them. We learned this the hard way on Kali River Rapids. The black dye used to dye the suede rubbed of on my husbands new white shirt. And it wouldn't come out at all!!
We just use a regular backpack by Jansport. Have used it every trip and it is great. (Except for that daggone suede part staining our clothes! )
