What ever happened to the live web cameras at Disney

What ever happened to the live web cams at Disney. I remember them being on Main St. and other area's throughout the park's. The only thing I can think of is for security reasons.

If memory serves me, I think they went away after 9/11 for security reasons.

Re: What ever happened to the live web cameras at Disney

I am glad they are gone. As much as I like watching WDW, I really don't want a bunch of strangers watching me as I try to scratch somewhere important, and I don't notice the camera!!

Re: What ever happened to the live web cameras at Disney

Here's sort of a Web cam. I after looking through the site I believe it's sponsored by MB.

WDWLIVE Walt Disney World Web Cam

From the site;
DISNEY WORLD VIDEO WEB CAM
Do you miss the Magic Kingdom web cam that Disney took down several years ago? We do. Unfortunately, it does not look like it is coming back anytime soon. So what is a Disney World fan to do!?! We have put our heads together here at WDWLIVE to solve this problem. Our solution is our very own Walt Disney World Video Web Cam.

Is this a LIVE web cam? Of course not. Only Disney could offer something like that. Instead, we offer you dynamic video footage looking down Main Street U.S.A. Depending on the time of day you visit our web cam, the video adjusts itself to (roughly) reflect real daylight conditions. Our unique algorithm also randomizes the video you see within the time block of your visit. And if you visit at just the right time, you might be lucky enough to get a glimpse of Share a Dream Come True, SpectroMagic or Wishes!

The footage was filmed over several trips to the World, starting in 2004 (like the near-empty Main Street video that plays late at night) and the latest being in September 2006 (that's why the Castle has the mirror but not all the spirals). In all there are about 300 clips and almost 4 hours of footage. Some clips play at specific times, like Share a Dream at about 3:10 pm, Spectromagic around 9:00 pm and Wishes at 10:00 pm. Other time periods have a set of clips (usually around 10 to 20) that randomly play (but not the same twice in a row). The SAME SET of 300 clips play every day.

The cam is not perfect. It will not match the sunlight conditions 100% perfectly, nor will it match the weather in anyway. In short, do not take the cam too seriously. It is just something that has been created for fun … something to give WDW fans (like myself) their greatly needed Walt Disney World "fix" ... to get that feeling of "being there" without actually being there. Enjoy it for what it is.

There is one somewhere in the Boardwalk area. I've seen it. It's not focused on the parks or crowds, but rather for weather.

Yes the castle has it's bling on it so it must be from last year . . . but it's still fun to look and and "Wish you were there!"

That's too funny. And it's old footage too. Note the magic mirror and the kids flying around the castle from the 50th birthday celebration. That stuff's gone for almost a year now.
I wonder if they'll play Wishes at 10 tonight?
Wow, MK's open until midnight tonight!

Read the write up in post # 5 and you have your explanation. They say they have about 300 clips which they play over and over but not in sequence, so it's sort of a new experience every time and they also say that the footage is from 2004 through 2006

Yep, as it is stated on the "HOW IT WORKS" page (and posted earlier in this thread), the web cam video dates from 2004 to 2006. Spectromagic plays everyday just after 9:00 pm and Wishes at 10:00 pm. This is regardless of what time the Magic Kingom really closes at or what time Wishes really is at today.

Some people question this whole "fake" web cam thing. You'd be surprised some of the negative feedback I get. Some people just do not understand what it is all about (despite the fact it is explained pretty clearly HOW and WHY I created it on the "HOW IT WORKS" page). If you are one of those people, compare it to LIVE365.com ... but instead of audio it's video. For example, one of the Disney radio stations on LIVE365.com plays the audio from Illuminations and Wishes every night at exactly the same time. Of course it's not actually LIVE! It is a recording. But it is fun to listen to. This is basically the same thing ... except it is video ... and it plays in increments of 45 seconds

If anyone has any questions about the cam or site, let me know.

Regards,
Rob.
